What’s left to say about Tucker Carlson Tonight? It’s the best show on television and it’s not even close. Every night, it’s the one show on television that breaks down the day’s events in a smart and thought-provoking way.
On Thursday, Tucker had one of the most intelligent takes on the Florida high school shooting and the left’s reaction to it.
Liberals don’t want gun control. They want people control.
“Let’s stop lying about this,” he said. “The calls we are hearing today for gun control have nothing to do with protecting Americans from violence. What you’re witnessing is a kind of class war. The left hates rural America, red America, gun-owning America, the America that elected Donald Trump. They hate them. Progressives are still in charge of most of the major institutions in this country, and they despise the autonomy of an armed population. They want collective punishment for the sins of a few. They seek to obliterate a core constitutional right rather than trying to mitigate its downsides. They call it gun control, but it’s not. It’s people control. For the left, voters who can’t be controlled, can’t be trusted.”
Tucker was absolutely correct when he brought up the issue of prescription drugs. Why is that never talked about? Why is mental health not the focus of the conversation? Why are liberals still pretending that guns kill people when people kill people? Democrats don’t want to talk about the disintegration of the nuclear family. They want to blame guns because it scores political points and appeals to people who are scared.
Also, Tucker was spot on when he reminded us all that the left hates rural America. That’s a huge factor here. The America that exists between New York and Los Angeles is a place the liberal left wishes didn’t exist. God, guns, patriotism. They can’t stand that stuff. That’s where a lot of this vitriol is coming from. If they really cared about human life would they be dumping $500 million of taxpayer funds to Planned Parenthood every year? Of course not. This isn’t about life. It’s about virtue signaling. It’s about Democrats lecturing the country about how smart they are and how morally sound they are.
Not only was Tucker correct to point out that the Australian gun control that liberals love so much was gun confiscation that would never work here. On top of that, it also didn’t really work.
From National Review:
Gun-control activists claim that the Australian model directly resulted in a pronounced fall in the gun-suicide rate and the gun-homicide rate. But these claims are disputable.
University of Melbourne researchers Wang-Sheng Lee and Sandy Suardi concluded their 2008 report on the matter with the statement, “There is little evidence to suggest that [the Australian mandatory gun-buyback program] had any significant effects on firearm homicides.” “Although gun buybacks appear to be a logical and sensible policy that helps to placate the public’s fears,” the reported continued, “the evidence so far suggests that in the Australian context, the high expenditure incurred to fund the 1996 gun buyback has not translated into any tangible reductions in terms of firearm deaths.”
You simply can’t trust liberals when it comes to guns. They just don’t get it.
