The federal immigration officials over at ICE have a difficult job. For starters, most liberals out there have done their best to purposely conflate illegal immigrants with legal immigrants. They like to pretend they are the same thing and attack anyone who believes in our laws as “anti-immigrant”. That makes ICE’s job even harder because now ICE is being treated as some Nazi-like force that is going door to door trying to kick out brown people.
In reality, ICE exists to enforce federal law that was passed by a Congress elected by the people. You don’t have to like the law but standing in the way of the law is against the law. The law is basically the only thing holding society together. Can we at least pretend that it matters?
Luckily, Trump’s arrival has sparked some serious change in Washington. When it comes to immigration, the law matters.
Some solid evidence of that just popped up in Los Angeles.
From Washington Examiner:
Federal immigration agents arrested 195 criminals living in the U.S. illegally during a five-day worksite enforcement operation around Los Angeles Sunday through Thursday.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deportation officers and special agents took a total of 212 people into custody during 122 notices of inspection to businesses throughout the southern California region.
ICE said 195 of the arrestees were convicted criminals, had been issued a final order of removal and failed to leave the country, or had been previously removed from the U.S. and returned illegally.
We get it. There are some hardworking people that come here illegally and they are just looking for a better life. Understood. That’s got nothing to do with enforcing the law. There are good people who get speeding tickets. There are good people who get caught up in drug abuse. We don’t look the other way because they have a nice story. Also, the vast majority of the people arrested were criminals so we aren’t talking about brain surgeons and Green Berets.
The United States has the right to determine who comes into the country. That’s what makes us a country. If we aren’t allowed to decide who comes here then what are we? No one has the right to just walk across the border and set up shop here. Other countries don’t put up with it. You can’t get away with this in Mexico, Israel, and plenty of other places.
If you want to come here you have to go through the legal channels. Sorry.
Jeff Sessions has been doing some solid work on illegal immigration as well trying to crack down on some of the cities across the countries that are serving as magnets for illegal immigrants.
From NBC News:
The Justice Department has given four major U.S. cities a “last chance” to prove they are not so-called sanctuary cities before losing millions of dollars in critical crime-fighting aid, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Thursday.
Chicago, New Orleans, New York and Philadelphia were all determined to have “laws, policies or practices” that violated a federal statute that requires jurisdictions to comply with federal immigration officials and help to deport suspected undocumented immigrants held in local jails, according to the department.
Sanctuary cities are local governments that limit police cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
Things are looking up.
