There’s More! Same Day Memo Is Released, Nunes Rocks the Nation with Unexpected Announcement

Having already created a stir with the FISA abuse memo that dropped on Friday, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) dropped another bombshell, that this was only the ‘phase one,’ that they were also investigating the Obama State Department for their involvement in spying on the Trump team.

Rep. Nunes was interviewed by Bret Baier on the release of the memo and he outlined that he thought that the Democrats were trying to talk about obstruction of justice because they had failed so miserably with their Russia collusion claims.

From Real Clear Politics:

NUNES: Well, I think what’s happening is I think the mainstream media and the Democrats are tying this to the Mueller investigation because they’re trying to perpetuate this nonsense of obstruction of justice because they’ve left the Russian collusion. They know there was no collusion.

And, you know, I have been saying this for a year now that there was no evidence of collusion. And so, now, you fast forward —

Baier then asked Nunes if there were other memos.

BAIER: Are there other memos that are going to come out? Are there other memos? You said this was phase one.

NUNES: Yes. So, this completes just the FISA abuse portion of our investigation. We are — we are in the middle of like whole phase two of our investigation, which involves other departments, specifically the State Department and some of the involvement that they had in this. That investigation is ongoing and we continue to work towards finding answers and asking the right questions to try to get to the bottom of what exactly the State Department was up to in terms of this Russian investigation.

Nunes laughed at the claim by some that he was a Russian agent or that calling for him to be fired.

“You know you’re over the target when you’re being attacked from all sides.”

Nunes said that he had an obligation to release the memo to protect the rights of American citizens.

From Washington Examiner:

“I have an obligation to the American people when we see FISA abuse,” Nunes said. “These are secret courts that exist to target for foreigners, for catching terrorists, for catching people who might be bad actors and the American citizens that are represented before this court have to be protected, and the only place that can protect them is the U.S. Congress when abuses do occur.”

The memo said that the court was not notified that the dossier was paid for by the Democrats and Hillary Clinton when the FBI got warrants from the FISA court.

Democrats tried to suggest the court was told that there was some “political motivation.” But saying there’s political motivation, even if that was said and there’s no evidence it was, is hardly the same thing as saying it was fully paid for by the Democrats.

“No,” Nunes said when asked if this was true. “These guys tell so many lies you can’t keep track of them. The court was not made aware.”

Nunes said he strongly believes that without the dossier, the court would not have authorized the surveillance. “They wouldn’t have received a warrant without the dossier. The dossier was presented to the court as if it were true. The court was not told that the Democrats actually paid for this,” Nunes said.

He also said that the Democratic claim that the release of the memo would harm “national security” had been shown to be an obvious falsehood by the memo.

He also said that he would vote for the release of the Democrats memo when the vote came up after it went through the same process as his memo.

Here’s the full interview.

Sounds like the Democrats have to be concerned about the fallout from the FISA abuse memo.
