President Donald Trump has his State of the Union coming up in about three weeks where he will outline the achievements he has made during the year and announce his plans for the coming year. It is typical for most members of Congress to be in attendance. But one Democrat has already announced that he plans to be disrespectful and boycott it.
From Daily Caller:
“Rather than listening to another destructive, divisive speech by Trump, I will not attend this year’s annual address to Congress,” Oregon Rep. Earl Blumenauer said in a statement. “Instead, like I did during his inauguration, I’ll be working at home listening to Oregonians about what they think about the State of the Union!”
“Hearing from Oregonians and working together to protect our values and advance policies that actually strengthen our communities is a more productive use of my time,” Blumenauer said.
This isn’t the first time that Democrats have been boycotted Trump. Some Democrats didn’t even wait to see what he might do, they decided to be disrespectful right off the bat and boycott the inauguration.
Several Democrats also boycotted Trump’s first address to a joint session of Congress in February last year. Following that address, Blumenauer garnered attention for his one-word response to Trump’s speech: “Resist.”
Despite very legitimate reasons to be disturbed with former President Barack Obama for any one of a number of reasons over eight years, Republicans always had class and didn’t do this.
Of course, Democrats are desperate to do whatever they can to paint Trump in a negative light. They failed with collusion, so now they’re casting for anything that might stick. From pulling out liberal psychiatrists who claim he’s mentally ill. This despite never examining him which is completely improper and against their oaths. Or pulling out a book to feed the narrative that he’s a danger from an author who even has to include a note that some things may be “baldly untrue.”
At the State of the Union, Trump will no doubt list a lot of accomplishments of the year. Along with passing a remarkable number of judicial appointments and record-cutting of regulations to grow business, there are five big economic things he’s likely to touch upon.
1. Dow hits 25,000 for the first time ever.
2. Job creation in December smashed expectations.
250,000 new workers hired in December which smashed Wall Street projections that forecasted only 190,000.
3. Job-cut announcements in 2017 see the lowest level since 1990.
4. Manufacturing in the U.S. had its best year in 2017 since 2004.
5. About 100 Companies have announced or are planning to announce bonuses, wage hikes and/or Charitable donations because of the GOP Tax Reform.
People are going to cheer that with open arms.
Blumenauer and others ‘resisters’ like to paint Trump as some sort of existential danger.
But Americans see the difference between what they say and what Trump is actually doing.
Well, if all that is an existential danger, may Americans have a lot more of it.
