GOP Sen. Corker takes Trump feud down a notch with BRUTAL tweet

The formerly harmonious warbling between President Trump and Tennessee Senator Bob Corker has built to an off-key crescendo recently as the pair’s playlist has moved from “You Got a Friend In Me” to “You Lost That Loving Feeling.”

The cue for the current caterwaul between the two seems to be the senator’s criticism of the White House a few days ago when he stated “I think Secretary Tillerson, Secretary Mattis and Chief of Staff Kelly are those people that help separate our country from chaos.”

Senator Corker’s primary intention for making his comment may have been to praise Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who at that time was rumored to be resigning. But he clearly intended a slight at the White House as well and the White House took it as such.

There’s no shortage of senators willing to take a dig at the president or his team, of course. But this comment is attention-worthy because not only is Bob Corker a Republican, he’s a Republican who not long ago was on Donald Trump’s shortlist to be his secretary of state.

At one point there was even a strong possibility that Bob Corker would be on the presidential ticket as Donald Trump’s running mate.

So perhaps the president has reason to feel personally stung by the senator’s comments, as he expressed on Twitter:

To the delight of any Democrats and the mainstream media, Senator Corker took to Twitter himself to respond in a surprising vitriolic fashion:

Could the Trump-Corker feud be as personal as their tweets indicate?

Very likely. The truth is Bob Corker is a very mainstream, establishment Republican. His lifetime American Conservative Union score of 80.28 is the 12th lowest among Senator Republicans for example; lower than even that of even Senators John McCain and Lindsay Graham.

As such he has often been a man at odds with the conservatives in his party, as well as the populists in the White House that he’d hoped to join.

And they with him. When he was under consideration to be secretary of state, for example, conservative radio host Mark Levin declared “That man undermined the constitution, undermined the treaty provision, and helped hand Barack Obama exactly what he wanted with Iran. And I am sick and tired of Republicans like this. We cannot have any more losers as secretary of state.”

This was a response to Bob Corker’s effort to facilitate President Obama’s infamous Iran Deal with a bill that changed the usual two-third approval by the Senate for a treaty to one-third, which allowed the Iran Deal to easily sail through Congress.

That action may have forever earned Senator Corker the Right’s contempt, which doubtlessly played a role in his announcement that he will not be seeking reelection.

However, Corker fans should look on the bright side. There is nothing the media likes more than a Republican willing to attack Donald Trump. Look at Steve Schmidt, Nicolle Wallace, Joe Scarborough, and many others.

So while his political career may be coming to an end, expect to soon see him regularly on MSNBC.
