JUST IN: For first time, sheriff says shooter may have been ‘radicalized’

Ever since the news broke Sunday night about the shooting in Las Vegas, which has left close to 60 people dead and hundreds injured, folks across the country have been starving for answers as to why the gunman, Stephen Paddock, carried out the attack.

There’s no obvious, clear-cut motive yet, but not long after the shooting, radical Islamic terrorist group ISIS claimed it was responsible, saying Paddock had been radicalized months ago — though no evidence of such has been found or released to the public.

In fact, police hadn’t really even mentioned the possibility of his being radicalized during the early parts of the investigation.

However, that’s all changed.

According to The Daily Caller,

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo gave a press conference Tuesday and responded to questions whether Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock had been “radicalized.”

Speaking to reporters, Lombardo said, “I want to understand the motivation that you described, okay, to prevent any future incidents, and, you know, did this person get radicalized unbeknownst to us? And we want to identify that source.”

The Islamic State repeatedly claimed responsibility for the attack Monday, though federal authorities have said there is no evidence that is the case.

Here’s the video:

The folks over at InfoWars are speculating that part of Paddock’s motivation for the shooting was political in nature, believing he may have targeted conservatives on purpose.

However, The New York Post is reporting that he may have actually been targeting a different musical festival initially that might not have been so “conservative” in nature:

Last weekend, he tried to rent a room overlooking a music festival a few miles away from the scene of his carnage Sunday, a law-enforcement source told The Post.

But Paddock couldn’t get a room that looked out onto the Life is Beautiful Festival, headlined by Chance the Rapper and Lorde and held in Sin City Sept. 22-24, the source said.

That festival was held several miles north of the Route 91 music festival that the cowardly Paddock sprayed with bullets from a 32nd-floor suite in the Mandalay Bay casino on Sunday.

So we aren’t any closer to understanding exactly why this man carried out such a brutal attack on innocent people. Was it just a madman’s rampage — or is there more to it than that?

Hopefully, we’ll get more answers soon, as it’s going to be hard to heal, both for the families of the victims and for us as a nation, without understanding how something so horribly tragic could happen.
