If one thing has become clear in 2017, it’s that Democrats will never miss an opportunity to hammer anything Trump does while he’s in office. Even during his feud with the NFL, Democrats have found opportunities to take jabs at the president. Instead of standing up for the country they serve, some Democrats staged “protests” on the House floor in a “show of solidarity” with NFL players in their battle against Trump.
Of course, NFL players aren’t the only athletes Trump has recently had friction with. After hesitating to confirm whether or not they would be attending the traditional White House ceremony, President Trump rescinded the NBA Championship Golden State Warriors’ invitation. Like with the NFL players, Pelosi pounced at the new opportunity, offering the Warriors an alternative to the White House.
From the Daily Mail:
It’s not the White House, but the NBA’s Golden State Warriors may get a chance to visit the ‘people’s house’ –- as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi poked at the Trump spat renewed her invitation for the team to tour Congress.
‘In celebration of your victory, we would be delighted to welcome you publicly as a team or personally as families to the United States Capitol. Please consider this as a blanket invitation whenever your individual schedules allow,’ Pelosi wrote along with California Rep. Barbara Lee. The letter was addressed to Warriors coach Steve Kerr.
‘We look forward to honoring your championship in the heart of democracy,’ they wrote at the time.
Pelosi initially wrote the letter in June, but doubled down on it in an attempt to capitalize on recent events:
Pelosi tweeted that her invitation to the team ‘still stands’ Tuesday, after President Donald Trump over the weekend announced over the weekend that his own invitation had been revoked.
She wrote: ‘[email protected] & @warriors the offer still stands. #DubNation.’
Ironically enough, Congress is always open to the public. While White House tours are hard to come by, tours of the Capitol can be had virtually any time by asking your congressman.
Of course, it’s hard to imagine Pelosi would allow Republican members of Congress an opportunity to share in the festivities, despite currently holding the majority. For Democrats, the Warriors visiting Congress would strictly serve political purposes, all while finding a new way to attack President Trump.
