Know how when you have a garage sale at a certain point you begin slashing prices on the junk no one has shown any interest in, hoping the discount will encourage someone — anyone — to buy that crapola because you don’t want to get stuck with it? It’s normally something you do toward the end of the sale. But when you see savvy merchandisers slashing the cost of an item before that item is even available on its shelves you know they’re seeing trouble on the horizon.Yet, that’s the exact action America’s largest retailer (Walmart) and largest e-tailer (Amazon) have taken in advance of their efforts to sell former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s supposed tell-all new book, What Happened.
The story, as told in this morning’s Washington Times:
Two huge booksellers, Amazon and Walmart, have already cut the price of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 2016 tell-all by 40 percent.
Set to be released Tuesday, both have priced What Happened at $17.99. Publisher Simon and Schuster set a price of $30.
Much of what’s in her book has already been reported on, thanks to leaked copies of the Democratic presidential candidate’s latest work. The price cut, however, has likely helped to boost sales. It is No. 1 on Amazon.”
So nearly half off its originally set price. That’s not a good early sign. It’s true there’s not much of a surprise factor to the book. Much, if not all, of it has already been leaked and widely reported on. That Hillary uses this book to go off on a ‘blame ’em all but me’ spree has been splashed all over the internet for months. It was Russia, it was misogyny, it was sort of -ism (we’d already broken one glass ceiling with Obama and weren’t prepared to break another), it was James Comey, etc., etc.
That she is unrepentant in her disdain for much of the American population isn’t exactly a well-kept secret either.Yesterday, the Washington Free Beacon, via its preview copy of the book, revealed that Hillary doubles down on ‘Basket of Deplorables‘ in the book — essentially affirming that shes does believe much of the country is deplorable and that she’s just sorry she said it out loud.
When all is said and done, what Hillary does in this book is blame her loss on the American people. Well, duh. Who’d pay thirty dollars to read that bit of obvious truth? Marketing bosses at Amazon and Walmart apparently found themselves asking the same question. The answer they came up with? No one. Or at least not enough people to keep them from getting stuck with a warehouse full of these things when the garage sale is over.
