To say that Donald Trump walked into a foreign affairs mess would be the greatest understatement since the captain of the Titanic was told to ‘watch out for icebergs.’ Thanks to ISIS, the Middle East is in a free fall. Also thanks to ISIS, nations of Western Europe are scrambling to keep citizens safe. Christians in Libya, Egypt, Somalia and other nations of northern Africa are being rounded up and executed. Then there’s North Korea.
With all these glowing embers needing to be watched, the nation branded the world’s number one state-sponsor of terrorism, a country whose leadership has called America “the great Satan” and whose citizenry routinely chants “Death to America” in the streets –Iran– has moved past tough talk and begun ramping up its war machine.
On Tuesday, Iran continued its ongoing string of provocations by sending one of its unmanned aircraft to ‘buzz’ a U.S. naval aircraft carrier. Military site Stripes.com had this to say:
“An Iranian drone harassed a Navy aircraft carrier and its jets Sunday night, in the second dangerous interaction between the two nations in less than a week, a Navy spokesman said.
The Iranian QOM-1 drone made several close passes of the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier and other ships escorting it in international waters in the central Persian Gulf, said Lt. Ian McConnaughey, a spokesman for U.S. Naval Forces Central.
The unarmed drone’s operators ignored repeated radio calls warning it to stay clear of the area while fighter jets operated nearby, McConnaughey said. The drone flew within about 1,000 feet of a Navy aircraft during the incident that was deemed unsafe and unprofessional.
…“The failure of the Iranian [drone] to utilize standard, internationally mandated navigation lights during a night time approach of a U.S. aircraft carrier engaged in flight operations created a dangerous situation with the potential for collision and is not in keeping with international maritime customs and laws,” McConnaughey said.”
That drone buzzing is just a warmup act. We’ve now learned that Iran is sending a complete flotilla of warships into the Atlantic in a direct confrontational move and doing so amidst a massive military buildup. Washington Free Beacon reports:
“Iran is preparing to send a flotilla of warships to the Atlantic Ocean following the announcement of a massive $500 million investment in war spending, according to Iranian leaders, who say the military moves are in response to recent efforts by the United States to impose a package of new economic sanctions on Tehran.
The military investment and buildup comes following weeks of tense interactions between Iran and the United States in regional waters, where Iranian military ships have carried out a series of dangerous maneuvers near U.S. vessels. The interactions have roiled U.S. military leaders and prompted tough talk from the Trump administration, which is currently examining potential ways to leave the landmark nuclear deal.
Iran’s increasingly hostile behavior also follows a little-noticed United Nations report disclosing that Iran has repeatedly violated international accords banning ballistic missile work. Lawmakers in the U.S. Congress and some policy experts also believe that Iran has been violating some provisions in the nuclear agreement governing nuclear-related materials.”
Boy, it’s a good thing Obama entered into that nuclear deal with Iran a few years back, huh? That deal, of course, paved the way for Iran to continue its pursuit of nuclear technology.
“With tensions over sanctions and Iran’s compliance with the nuclear agreement growing, Iranian parliamentary members voted to increase war spending by more than $500 million. This is at least the second recent cash influx to Iran’s military since the landmark nuclear deal that unfroze billions in Iranian assets and saw the United States awarding Tehran millions in cash.
Iranian lawmakers reportedly shouted “death to America” as they passed the measure, which boosts spending to Iran’s contested missile programs by around $260 million.”
So Obama gave Iran the green light to develop nukes and now they’re spending millions on armaments and other military build up. Gee, where in the world did Iran get all that cash from?
