“Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it” has been oft quoted over the past week by those who object to the removal of monuments and other forms of remembrance of the southern Confederacy. But it’s a phrase that can equally be applied to the political left in America.
For the past eight-and-a-half years liberals have been calling the American electorate racists, misogynists, haters, xenophobes, homophobes, Islamaphobes and other epithets, in essence saying, “you can’t stand anything other than white people!” And what do they have to show for it? Down to just fifteen governorships (the lowest since the 1860’s), both chambers of Congress lost, a Supreme Court pick not favoring them, a White House loss, and the hemorrhaging of nearly 1,100 elected offices nationwide.
They’ve gotten absolutely pounded. Seems people don’t like being called names and constantly berated. Who knew? But has any of this taught liberals any lessons? That’s debatable — but at least one prominent news figure clearly hasn’t gotten the message.
Yesterday, CNN’s Don Lemon didn’t just play the race card he threw in the whole deck. Appearing last night on CNN’s “New Day” show Lemon went full bore on the “you’re all racists” narrative:
“Let me be plainly clear, anyone who is in that White House and is supporting him [Trump] is complicit in their racism as well.
“We know now why he’s so upset. For those of you who did know, so obsessed with Barack Obama. Barack Obama was a black president. Maybe he didn’t think Barack Obama was fit to be in office. He traded on racial animus and racial BS and he’s been doing it for decades, and we are going to sit here and pretend that we’re surprised.”
Lemon joins an ever-expanding club that includes Michael Moore — who this week called Trump supporters rapists — and other lefties who just cannot grasp the fact that not everyone in the nation shares the loathing, disgust, and animus that they have for our president and for conservative principles.
The most telling part of Lemon’s tirade last night? Two words — “we know.” Who is “we?” One thing conservatives know is who it is that sincerely believes the entire nation sees things as they do and agrees with them so therefore there’s no political risk in calling Trump a racist, woman-hating pig who’s unfit for office — because everyone knows it.
Keep it up liberals, keep it up. Keep right on calling the American people and president vile disparaging names and you’ll keep right on waking up the first Wednesday morning of November in election years wondering what went wrong. Because those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
