One of Spain’s major cities, Barcelona, is on lockdown after a truck ran down pedestrians at a popular tourist destination.

A truck has plowed into pedestrians in Barcelona leaving several injured, according to local reports.
People have been told to avoid the area as emergency services reacted to a “serious incident” in the Spanish city.
Metro lines have been shut and shoppers and pedestrians have been seen running into buildings as armed police flooded the area.
Testimonies suggest the van careered into pedestrians as they crossed the road.
Some witnesses reported hearing possible gun fire:
And witnesses have told of hearing gunshots, although this has not been confirmed.
Barcelona is one of the most popular summer destinations for British tourists.

At this time, reports do not indicate whether the attack was connected to terrorism.
In recent years, Western Europe has seen a rise in terrorist attacks. Although France has seemingly taken the brunt of the violence, countries like the UK and Belgium have also seen their fair share of attacks. To date, Spain has mostly been able to avoid the trend, although there have been signs of that beginning to change.
