A writer for the far-left Salon made the mistake of exposing how she really feels in attempting to defend immigrants against Republicans (who are against illegal immigrants, not immigrants).
In a now deleted tweet, Mary Beth Williams sent out the following:
Well, seems that Republicans are more than capable of cleaning their toilets, and hiring babysitters. It’s unclear how many of the sixty million registered Republicans Williams thinks own limos.
Of course, people couldn’t notice how demeaning her comments were to immigrants, reducing them to nothing more than mindless laborers. Of course, since Republicans aren’t the party of the outrage police, they took the opportunity to mock the accidental racism rather than condemn it:
Who will drive the limos is a huge electoral issue https://t.co/hHB5ODoBF7

Wait, the bitter clinger Bible thumpers have limo drivers? Awesome! https://t.co/jmQ4qd3XgF

I'm a Republican who cleans my own toilets, raises my own children, and drives my own car. Who do you imagine the Republicans are?

Everything about this tweet is what caused the backlash that led to Trump. https://t.co/ZYnYvB7OGp

I particularly like how you threw in a "we're" as if you weren't being racist.

I clean my own toilets thank you…and I nannied my own four kids-it's called being a mother-but I'll leave the limo driving to someone else

This is hardly the first time such an argument immediately backfired in a liberal’s face:
I’d comment further – but I have to take my limo to the carwash.
