Oops: Megyn Kelly debuts on NBC; instantly steps in it

It took a long time, but Megyn Kelly made her return to TV Thursday morning. The former Fox News host made her NBC debut on the ‘Today’ show, ending a long dispute with Fox News over her separation.

Kelly is slated to host her own show on NBC, but made her debut on ‘Today’ to confirm she was in Russia to do a one-on-one interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, it didn’t take long for her make a mess of her first NBC segment. It was likely unintentional, but Kelly’s gaffe had one ‘Today’ co-host looking a bit stunned in disbelief.

From the Daily Mail:

A sunny Megyn Kelly was all smiles on Thursday morning as she made her first appearance on NBC since it was announced that she was joining the network back in January.

The network’s newest hire appeared on ‘Today’ via satellite from St. Petersburg, Russia, confirming that on Friday she will be sitting down with Vladimir Putin after the World Economic Forum for a one-on-one interview.

Kelly got a warm welcome from ‘Today’ anchors Savannah Guthrie, Matt Lauer and Hoda Kotb back in New York, and returned their greeting with some cheerful thanks, telling Lauer and Guthrie how happy she was to be part of the team.

She neglected however to mention Kotb, who appeared shocked for a second and then jokingly put up her hands in disbelief.

Kelly did however acknowledge Kotb at the end of the segment.

Not the best start for Kelly, especially after leaving behind some strained relationships at her former employer.

Chalk it up to being a bit rusty, but Kelly will have to shake it off soon. Her interview with Vladimir Putin is sure to be one of the most highly watched events of the week. Putin’s Russia has been under fire, with claims that his government interfered in the American election. Many Democrats even claim that Putin and Trump colluded to steal the election, though there hasn’t been any evidence to suggest that’s true.

In any event, Kelly will get to ask Putin the questions that are on everyone’s mind. Let’s hope she doesn’t forget anything.
