SHOCK: Look who’s calling for IMPEACHMENT now…

While Democrats have been calling for President Donald Trump’s impeachment since before he took office, Michigan’s Rep. Justin Amash became the first Republican to float the possibility today. He did so in response to an explosive report from the New York Times which alleged President Trump asked former FBI-director James Comey to drop the investigation into Michael Flynn. This was according to a memo that Comey wrote shortly after meeting with Trump in February regarding the matter. “I hope you can let this go,” the president told Mr. Comey, according to the memo.

According to The HillRep. Justin Amash on Wednesday said reports that President Trump pressed ousted FBI Director James Comey to end an investigation would merit impeachment if true, becoming the first Republican lawmaker to broach the idea.

Asked by The Hill if the details in the memo would merit impeachment if they’re true, Amash replied: “Yes.” “But everybody gets a fair trial in this country,” Amash added as he left a House GOP conference meeting.

Asked by another reporter whether he trusted Comey’s word or Trump’s, Amash said: “I think it’s pretty clear I have more confidence in Director Comey.”

Amash is one of only two House Republicans to cosponsor a Democratic bill to establish an independent commission to investigate Russia’s role in the election. Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) has also endorsed the legislation.

Flynn was ousted as Trump’s national security adviser in February after it was revealed he misled the public and top White House officials about about his communications with a Russian ambassador regarding sanctions.

Thus far, Donald Trump Jr. has been the only member of the Trump family to publicly address the NYT report, by responding to a tweet from Geraldo Rivera that stated “News Flash, @realDonaldTrump hoping @JamesComeyFBI cuts @MikeFlynn some slack because he is a ‘good man’ is not close to #Obstruction.”

In all likelihood, Trump will emerge from this controversy unscathed just as he has every other.

Then we’ll have to wait until next week to see over what his opponents want to impeach him next.
