Unreal: Look where COMMUNISTS may now be working

The state of California has a reputation for being one of the most liberal states in the country. Even so, the state has a way of surprising even some of its harshest critics.

Movements like “Calexit” show how liberal hysteria has been in overdrive in the state since the election of Donald Trump. However, a new bill making its way through the state legislature might be the most insane yet.

From The Sacramento Bee:

The state Assembly voted Monday, May 8 to approve a bill that would eliminate Cold War-era language that allows California to fire any state worker who is a member of the Communist Party. In this clip, Assemblyman Rob Bonta, D-Alameda, introduced his bill before facing opposition from Assemblyman Travis Allen, R-Huntington Beach.

Being a communist would no longer be a fireable offense for California government employees under a bill passed Monday by the state Assembly.

Lawmakers narrowly approved the bill to repeal part of a law enacted during the Red Scare of the 1940s and ’50s when fear that communists were trying to infiltrate and overthrow the U.S. government was rampant. The bill now goes to the Senate.

It would eliminate part of the law that allows public employees to be fired for being a member of the Communist Party.

Not surprisingly, the bill does face some fierce resistance from Republicans:

Assemblyman Randy Voepel, a Southern California Republican who fought in the Vietnam War, said communists in North Korea and China are “still a threat.”

“This bill is blatantly offensive to all Californians,” said Assemblyman Travis Allen, a Republican who represents a coastal district in Southern California. “Communism stands for everything that the United States stands against.”

Although many view prohibitions on communists serving in government positions as a knee-jerk reaction to Cold War era tensions, these laws have good reason to be in place. After all, it doesn’t make sense to allow someone that believes in overthrowing your government an opportunity to work for your government.

Despite having some of the highest tax rates in the nation, California is still over $400 billion in debt. It’s hard to believe allowing communists to hold government positions will improve that situation anytime soon.

It’s unclear whether Governor Jerry Brown would sign the legislation if it arrived on his desk. However, it’s sad any California lawmakers believe an ideology responsible for the deaths of millions of people deserves a seat at the table.
