One of the biggest issues facing our nation today is illegal immigration, and perhaps there’s no greater controversy surrounding this topic than that of sanctuary cities.
New York City’s current mayor, Bill de Blasio, a raging liberal, is a really big fan of sanctuary cities, which by extension, means he’s not a big fan of upholding the federal law in this country.
Former NYC mayor, Michael Bloomberg was recently interviewed, and, when asked for his take on the issue, he dropped some truth bombs sure to have liberals foaming at the mouth.
According to the Washington Free Beacon:
Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg dismissed sanctuary cities on Tuesday, saying that those who oppose federal immigration laws should try to change them in legislatures.
“Morning Joe” panelist Steve Rattner asked Bloomberg for his take on the cities that refuse to cooperate with federal officials on detaining and deporting illegal immigrants.
“You cannot, Steve, have everybody deciding which laws they should obey,” Bloomberg said. “The law is the law.”
“You should obey the law and if you don’t like the law, get your legislative body to change the law,” Bloomberg continued. “But society breaks down if we can all decide what’s right and what’s wrong.”
Contrast this very true and right opinion on the matter with that of de Blasio who vowed to fight the Trump administration tooth and nail in court if they went forward with their threat to cut federal funding to cities that refused to cooperate with immigration officials.
Bloomberg is right. The law is indeed the law, and everyone needs to obey it, whether they like it or not.
Our immigration system exists to protect us from threats to national security and to our economy. Those who don’t respect those laws and enter the country illegally are spitting in the face of all who make this one of the best nations in history.
Cities who oppose the enforcement of federal law should most definitely have their funding yanked, and they should be ashamed of themselves for knowingly placing citizens in danger by hiding illegals, many of whom have violent criminal pasts.
Who’d have thought Michael Bloomberg would sock it to his fellow liberals?
