STOCK UP: Look which state is about to place a MASSIVE tax on soda…

A commonly held belief among liberals is that the average Joe doesn’t have enough smarts to make sound decisions on even the most basic choices of life, like what to eat or drink.

Therefore, since obesity and diabetes are becoming epidemics, and people are obviously too dumb — according to progressives — to choose the right foods and beverages, Uncle Sam and the elites in the government have decided to save us all from ourselves by forcing us to make the right choice.

Through taxation, of course. Hey, why not make a few extra bucks while trying to make people take better care of themselves, right?

This is precisely what’s happening in Philly with the tax on sugary beverages, which is an idea now being mulled over in Connecticut.

Insert eye roll here.

Fox 61 is reporting, The state is considering a tax on sugary drinks to fight health problems associated with too much sugar in one’s diet, such as obesity and diabetes.

The proposed tax would cost consumers a penny per ounce on drinks that contain calorie-inducing sweeteners such as sugar, high fructose corn syrup, honey, and maple syrup.

Drinks that contain diet and zero calorie sweeteners would be exempt from the bill.

The money from that tax would go toward programs aimed at fighting childhood health problems and raise aware about having a balanced diet.

The bill was introduced by the state Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee and lawmakers heard testimony at a public hearing Tuesday morning.

“In the context of modern public health these products are a scourge and we have to accept and react to that reality. They are a peril to the health of adults and children alike,” said Dr. David Katz, Director of the Prevention Research Center at Yale University. “These companies need to do what all companies need to do to survive and that’s keep up with the times and frankly diversify their portfolio and sell something else.”

This may come as an absolute shocker to the left, but it’s actually not the government’s job to monitor what kind of food and drink you consume on a daily basis.

It’s also not their concern whether or not you keel over from a heart attack due to clogging your arteries with bacon, cheeseburgers, milkshakes, and other awesomeness.

Why punish those who purchase and consume those products responsibly by charging a tax? That doesn’t seem very fair, now does it?

Just take a look at how much the price of a soft drink has skyrocketed in Philadelphia:

That’s insane!

Governments need to stay out of the private lives of people who make up the fabric of this country and stick to protecting life and property by upholding our God-given rights.
