BOOM: Melania just brought the FAKE NEWS establishment to its knees

Score one for Melania Trump, and one big one against the fake news establishment.

There was once a point in the news media industry when rumors, innuendo, “third-party sources” were thoroughly checked, vetted and verified before stories aired or went to press. Investigative reporting standards were high as newsmen (it was very male-dominated industry in those days) who wanted their reporting to be accurate and truthful because as the so-called “fourth branch” of government they felt a sense of responsibility to their listeners/viewers/readers.

Some time ago, that all went out the window and the reporting of half- or non-truths as facts became commonplace.  The practice reached its fever pitch during the 2016 presidential campaign when a heavily-biased news media did all in its power to derail the Trump train. They reported on everything from Doald Trump being involved in depraved sex acts in a Russian hotel room to Melania Trump having worked as a call-girl. Call-girl of course being a swank, lower-Manhattan way of saying “hooker.”

It appears the first lLady, like her husband, is not one to sit idly by while lies are reported about her. In August of 2016 during the throes of the campaign, the British news Daily Mail ran the false story about Melania under the headline, “Racy photos and troubling questions about his wife’s past that could derail Trump.”

They upped the trash factor by including some racy photos from her early modeling years and went on to report about how her work as a professional model may not have been the only profession she was practicing.

Melania immediately went on the offensive, lawyered up and slapped them upside the head with a $150 million lawsuit. The Daily Mail has now cried “uncle” and agreed to a $2.9 million settlement and public retraction of their trash story.

From Bizpac Review:

“First lady Melania Trump scored a legal and moral victory after bringing British newspaper the Daily Mail to its knees.

The Daily Mail and Mail Online apologized and agreed to pay $2.9 million in damages to settle a libel lawsuit Melania had filed over a bogus story claiming she had worked as a call girl during her early days as a model.

The Daily Mail retracted the story and issued an apology on Wednesday, acknowledging that its defamatory article was false:”

The Daily Mail newspaper and the Mail Online/ website published an article on 20th August 2016 about Melania Trump which questioned the nature of her work as a professional model, and republished allegations that she provided services beyond simply modelling. The article also claimed that Mr and Mrs Trump may have met three years before they actually met, and ‘staged’ their actual meeting as a ‘ruse’.

We accept that these allegations about Mrs Trump are not true and we retract and withdraw them. We apologise to Mrs. Trump for any distress that our publication caused her. To settle Mrs Trump’s two lawsuits against us, we have agreed to pay her damages and costs.

Want to hurt a company? Hit them in their pocketbook. In this case score one, make that 2.9 million, for the anti-fake news establishment.
