Ever needed help dodging Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids with your busy schedule as an illegal immigrant? There’s an app for that.
Enter “Notifica,” an app designed and created by United We Dream to help illegals notify one another if there’s an ICE raid going on in their community. United We Deam claims to be “the largest immigrant youth-led organization in the nation … made up of over 100,000 immigrant youth and allies and 55 affiliate organizations in 26 states.”
The app isn’t officially out yet, but over 8,000 people have added themselves to a waiting list to download the app, which is set to be released April 10th. According to Fox News Tech, App creator Adrian Reyna, who is director of digital strategies for the pro-immigrant organization United We Dream, told EFE that after Trump’s executive order on immigration he and others thought it would be a good idea to provide the community with a tool of this kind.
Using Notifica, one can select several contacts at the same time, with different personalized and predetermined messages, thus sending different messages to – for instance – one’s relatives, one’s attorney, the boss or the children’s school principal.
All the messages will be sent simultaneously with the touch of a button and will be erased once they are opened, using a technology similar to Snapchat.
Reyna emphasized the need among undocumented families to make emergency plans before being deported, especially if there are children involved. Although the technology will not stop deportations, it will help families who become targets of the authorities to know when to execute their pre-arranged plan for such an eventuality, said Reyna, whose parents are undocumented.
There are of course two ways of looking at this new app. The first would be outrage that there’s an app allowing illegals to spread information that’ll help others violate federal law.
On the other hand, there’s now a database containing the information of everyone who downloaded this app.
