Rachel’s bad week: Trump’s taxes, public mockery, now THIS…

After wasting an entire episode of her show to outline Russian conspiracy theories on Tuesday, Rachel Maddow finally managed to get to the topic of Donald Trump’s tax returns, in what was probably the most hyped up episode of an MSNBC show ever.

And the grand reveal? Trump paid $38 million dollars in taxes in 2005, completely destroying the liberal talking point that Trump may have never paid taxes for two decades after suffering a $1 billion loss in 1995.

We also learned that Trump paid a higher tax rate than Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders, Mitt Romney, and MSNBC’s parent company, Comcast.

It took Maddow so long to cut to the chase that the White House itself revealed what was contained in Trump’s 1995 tax returns, while Maddow cut to the chase at sloth-like speed. “You know you are desperate for ratings when you are willing to violate the law to push a story about two pages of tax returns from over a decade ago,” the White House said in a statement.

Speaking of violating the law, a lawsuit may be coming the way of MSNBC, and the journalist who obtained them, David Cay Johnston.

According to Fox Business, Trump’s legal team is weighting the merits of a case against the two for publishing the tax returns, alleging that they violated federal privacy law during the broadcast.

Watch below:

Can you imagine if they end up getting successfully sued over a report that ended up helping Trump, and made them a center of mockery even among liberals that night? Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

Yep. Not the kind of suit Maddow is used to.

As a bonus for anyone who needs a laugh, Stephen Colbert did his own impression of the Maddow segment on his show last night:
