With manufacturing jobs returning to the U.S., more people returning to the workforce, hard-earned 401k values rising thanks to a booming stock market, you’d think the proletariat, working class folks would be celebrating Donald Trump’s presidency.
Well maybe some are — the ones who voted him into office. But as we now know, there’s a noisy class of disaffected of people in this country who will not accept Trump or his policies,
There’s a “resistance” movement growing, fomented and funded by progressive organizers such as George Soros and even our former president, B. Hussein Obama, who’s now shacking up with Valerie Jarrett in his D.C. home, apparently turning it into resistance HQ.
Now the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is ratcheting up the movement further with a nationwide training event to encourage people to protest Trump’s policies they don’t like and to make sure they’re aware of their rights as protesters.
Yesterday, the ACLU held an event at a sports arena on the University of Miami campus which was live streamed to locations in all 50 states.
According to the Associated Press, ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero said 200,000 people had signed up to attend one of an estimated 2,000 local events.
The event, staged in town hall style, was aimed at capitalizing on numerous demonstrations since Trump’s election in November and to make sure people know their rights to protest, Romero said. He said priority issues are immigration, the First Amendment free speech and religious freedom rights, civil and reproductive rights and rights of gay, lesbian and transgender people.
Ok, can we just stop for a minute. Has Donald Trump done a single thing to infringe on free speech or religious freedom? Has he prosecuted bakers or pizza makers for withholding their services? Has he done a single thing to prevent gay, lesbian and transgender people from being gay, lesbian or transgender? Has he made gay marriage illegal? What has he done to limit the civil rights of American citizens?
And don’t you love the way they say “reproductive rights” — like people don’t have the right to reproduce? Of course they mean aborting reproduction. The right to say “oops, I did it again.” Anyway…
The ACLU also launched a new grassroots online organizing platform called PeoplePower.org. It’s billed as a way for people considering a local protest or rally to connect and coordinate with others around the country with similar intentions, and to provide details of ACLU initiatives.
Another plan is creation of “freedom cities” around the country that would encourage local officials to pass laws resisting Trump policies such as stepped-up deportations of people living in the country illegally, said Faiz Shakir, ACLU national political director.
Col. West has often said here that the most important elected office is the school board, because that’s where progressive policies often take root. But frankly, it’s all local offices.
We recently reported here about a Syrian-born mayor of a small New Jersey town who refuses to allow his city to become a “sanctuary.” Folks, when mayoral elections come up where you live, make sure you vote.
The resistance movement is well funded and isn’t going away We can’t allow our own apathy to allow it to take hold.
