If you were asked who the primary opposition to Trump’s administration was, it would be tempting to say left-wing Democrats, and to a certain extent, you’d be right.
However, the overwhelming majority of Americans seem to agree his greatest enemy is the mainstream media. Given how much time, talent, and energy is dedicated to destroying him on a daily basis, that assessment seems pretty spot on.
A recent poll conducted by Investors Business Daily lays it all out.
Breitbart is reporting:
A majority of Americans believe the establishment media is acting as the primary political opponent to President Donald Trump, according to a new poll by TIPP.
Fifty-five percent of the public told TIPP that they are “weary from the media’s persistently negative coverage of President Trump,” and 54 percent say the news media “has assumed the role of the opposition party, constantly opposing the president and his policies at every turn,” according to an article in Investors Business Daily, which sponsored the TIPP poll.
The result supports the argument by Steve Bannon, Trump’s strategist, who described the establishment media in January as “the opposition party.”
According to IBD:
Not surprisingly, Republicans overwhelmingly hold these views (88 percent say they’re tired of the [media’s] relentless negativity), but the media’s attacks are also turning off independents (55 percent of whom say they’re weary of the negative coverage) and moderates (54 percent of whom are weary). Most also believe that the press has assumed the role of the opposition party.
The poll also showed the public backs Trump’s ‘Hire American’ immigration policies:
The poll found that 57 percent back Trump’s plan to hire 10,000 more immigration agents; 58 percent support the deportation of illegal immigrants charged with a crime, even if they haven’t been convicted; 53 percent back Trump’s call to withhold federal aid to “sanctuary cities.”
Once upon a time, a free press existed in America with the sole mission to ensure the facts — and only the facts — were being presented to the citizens of our great nation, equipping them with the information needed to make good decisions when it came time to pick their leaders.
The days of integrity in journalism seem to be long, long gone, particularly for big news outlets no longer shy about pushing a particular agenda. Sadly, most see no problem with harassing Trump any chance they get.
Strangely, this sort of journalistic tactic was totally absent during the Obama administration, sending the clear message that the only way the MSM will ever do its actual job is when the opposition to the ideology they espouse holds office.
That’s the true American tragedy here…
