BREAKING: White House makes MAJOR announcement on Obama wiretapping

President Donald Trump turned some heads last night when in a tweet storm he accused the Obama administration of wiretapping Trump tower.

“Wiretapping? What wiretapping?” most of us thought, unaware there even was a wiretapping, let alone one the Obama administration carried out. A spokesman for Obama denied that he [Obama] ordered any wiretaps at Trump Tower, but didn’t comment on whether or not there was any wiretapping. “As part of that practice, neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any U.S. citizen,” the statement said. Of course he had to specify they never ordered surveillance on any U.S. citizen, as Obama’s NSA spied on dozens of foreign leaders (of which Obama denied being aware, of course).

So what do we know so far? Ben Shapiro has the most level-headed summary, noting that the Obama administration did in fact monitor communications of those surrounding Trump.

The New York Times reported months ago that the intelligence community had recordings of several of Trump’s associates; the Times speculated that such recordings could have been gathered because the Obama intelligence apparatus was wiretapping Russians and caught Trump officials on the other end.

Shapiro then quotes Barrett, who reported that “According to multiple reports, during the 2016 campaign, the Obama administration allegedly submitted two requests with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) targeting Trump or those associated with him. The first, submitted in June 2016, was reportedly a request to monitor several of Trump’s associates. The request was denied. The Obama administration then allegedly submitted a second FISA request in October focused on the computer server in Trump Tower, which they suspected had some connections to Russian banks. That request was granted, but nothing was found.

According to some reports, the wiretaps of Trump Tower continued nonetheless.”

Trump himself didn’t provide any evidence of a wiretap, but now the White House is asking Congress to look further into it. According to ReutersThe White House asked the U.S. Congress on Sunday to examine whether the Obama administration abused its investigative authority during the 2016 campaign, as part of an ongoing congressional probe into Russia’s influence on the election.

The request came a day after President Donald Trump alleged, without supporting evidence, that then-President Obama ordered a wiretap of the phones at Trump’s campaign headquarters in Trump Tower in New York.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said Trump and administration officials would have no further comment on the issue until Congress has completed its probe, potentially heading off attempts to get Trump to explain his accusations.

“Reports concerning potentially politically motivated investigations immediately ahead of the 2016 election are very troubling,” Spicer said in a statement.

Under U.S. law, a federal court would have to have found probable cause that the target of the surveillance is an “agent of a foreign power” in order to approve a warrant authorizing electronic surveillance of Trump Tower.

The scary thing is, we already know during the waning weeks of his term, Obama acolytes were actively stirring up a mess of a stew by classifying certain information and declassifying other to to embarrass the incoming administration. We know Obama confidante Valerie Jarrett has even moved in to live with the Obamas in DC to build basically a “resistance HQ.” Connect the dots folks. An ugly picture emerges.
