Hipsters beware: even your craft beer could be sexist according to your fellow Lefties.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise when the Left is running out of things to brand “racist” or “sexist” at an alarming rate. Among the topics branded “sexist” in the past include science, peer review, Mars colonies, history, chivalry, world wars, national anthems, money, monogamy, and much, much more (yes, really).
So what are the charges against the craft beer renaissance? According to the Rebel Media, An article in All About Beer magazine entitled, “Taking a Stand Against Sexist Beers”, details how that publication keeps beer names that are in poor taste out of its pages and reviews.
Author John Holl says small independent breweries have started to talk about their intentions to research gender and race in the industry dominated by men.
Breweries producing beers with names like Panty Peeler and Phat Bottom, and that use hair colours like blonde and amber to describe ales are behind the times, says Holl. Never mind that men also have blonde hair, and these terms are descriptors that help consumers identify what they’re drinking.
Holl further says it’s a social responsibility to stand up for women that are being objectified and treated like they’re beneath men but fails to note some of those beer names were coined by women.
Heat Street reports that last year a Fullbright scholar claimed “Panty Peeler” beer promoted rape culture, but the female co-founder of Midnight Sun Brewing Company meant for the name to be “consensual sex-positive” and the Lady Godiva logo was chosen as a symbol of female empowerment.
As of March 5th 2017, 3:10PM EST, the number of victims of craft beer sexism stands at an astounding zero individuals.
