Since taking office, President Trump has had a busy first month fulfilling the promises he made to the American people. Of course, Trump has had to use his executive authority almost daily, as some of his bigger campaign promises will require action by Congress.
So far, work in Congress has been slow. That’s not necessarily surprising, considering how large some of the items on his agenda are. However, there are signs that some of the GOP leadership in the House might not have the courage to follow through on Trump’s sweeping agenda.
When it comes to Obamacare, Trump promised a full repeal of the law. However, House Speaker Paul Ryan has signaled he is only pushing for a partial repeal of the legislation. However, the people elected Trump because they wanted the disastrous healthcare law obliterated, and Republicans should be held accountable to the voters. Thankfully, three GOP Senators are taking a stand to ensure Trump’s promises get fulfilled.
Enough Republicans to crush the effort in the U.S. Senate announced on Monday evening they oppose any effort by congressional GOP leadership to only partially repeal Obamacare, scuttling House Speaker Paul Ryan’s plans to kick the can down the road again.
Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Mike Lee (R-UT) each tweeted out that there should be a full repeal of Obamacare — nothing less.
Of course, with only 52 GOP Senators, any partial repeal would be unlikely to pass without the support of these three:
Given the fact there are only 52 GOP senators, should the three of them band together against any legislative effort by Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to offer only a partial repeal, as they suggest they will, they would likely doom such an effort in the U.S. Senate. It is highly unlikely Democrats would support even partial repeal of the former president’s healthcare law.
“We expect a full repeal of Obamacare and will not accept anything less,” a Senate GOP aide familiar with the efforts by Paul, Cruz, and Lee said late Monday when reached by Breitbart News. “Anything less is dead on arrival.”
As President Trump works hard to make good on his promise to repeal Obamacare, some members of his own party have seemingly started to backtrack on their support. Thankfully, these three Senators hold the key to putting legislation on the President’s desk. The Senators have taken the stance that anything less than what President Trump promised is unacceptable.
Now it’s up to the rest of the party to get on board.
