Rumors continue to swirl about Washington insiders conspiring to dismantle President Trump’s cabinet and team of advisers.
Depending on which sources you read, you may have seen reports that after Michael Flynn was taken out, next on the list could be Reince Priebus, Kellyanne Conway, Sean Spicer or…Steve Bannon.
Some speculated that the attack on Milo Yiannopoulos, after comments he made about younger gay men’s relationships with older men a year ago surfaced, was part of an effort to damage Steve Bannon.
Whether or not any of this is true is open to debate, but what is clear is Bannon’s future may now be in question with Trump’s appointment of his new national security adviser.
The Daily Mail reports, President Donald Trump has given Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster ‘100 per cent control’ over his team as the new head of the president’s National Security Council, White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters Tuesday.
‘The president has made clear to [McMaster] … he’s got full authority to structure the national security team the way he wants,’ Spicer told reporters on Tuesday, a day after Trump announced his selection of McMaster.
Remember that Trump named both Steve Bannon and K.T. McFarland to the security team — and both still remain, for now.
Trump’s granting of full authority to McMaster follows reports that a previous candidate, Retired Navy Vice Adm. Robert Harward, had turned down the post over his inability to pick his own team.
Spicer even said McMaster would be given consideration if he made the case for booting Trump whisperer Steven Bannon from the security council. Bannon earned a spot on the panel of top security officials under an executive order Trump signed in his first days in power.
Well this is interesting.
You know, people complain Donald Trump doesn’t listen to anyone and acts like a tyrant. But more and more, it appears Trump DOES listen to people —it just may be he’s listening to the wrong ones.
McMaster seems like a solid pick, with a strong reputation as an “intellectual warrior.” Let’s hope he puts together a worthy team. Off the tops of our heads here at www.allenbwest.com, we can think of one name in particular…
