Is the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization? The United Arab Emirates (UAE) seems to think so…and they should know.
After decades of being given a free pass, the Muslim Brotherhood is finally on the verge of being designated a terrorist organization by the United States government (and they’re not the only ones).
According to the Wall Street Journal:
The Trump administration is considering executive actions that would designate Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and the Muslim Brotherhood, an influential movement across the Middle East, as terrorist organizations, people familiar with the discussions said.
A decision to target either of the two groups would mark a significant expansion of U.S. sanctions against Islamist organizations in the Middle East. They would join al Qaeda, Islamic State and dozens of other militant organizations currently on the U.S. terrorism list.
The White House is likely to move more quickly on the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which could be less of a challenge to implement, one person familiar with the discussions said. It was unclear when a decision would be made on either designation.
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer declined Wednesday to say whether the White House would take steps against either the Muslim Brotherhood or the IRGC. But, he said: “There’s no one that can question the president’s commitment to fully attacking and addressing the threat that we face by Islamic terrorists.”
Politico warned that designating them a terrorist organization could fuel further extremism, citing a CIA memo.

Yes — because all Muslims are moderate, yet can be turned radical by the flick of a switch if anything dares to offend them. If officially designating the Brotherhood a terrorist organization would attract more terrorists, wouldn’t that just confirm that designating them as such is the appropriate decision?
A number of countries have already done so — including a number of Muslim countries.
That CIA memo is bunk, by the way. As PJ Media noted:
Oddly, Politico’s article fails to mention that the CIA and the U.S. intelligence community were directly involved in funding the experts who pushed the bogus “moderate Muslim Brotherhood” narrative beginning in the latter end of the Bush administration.
This hand-wringing is in response to reports that the Trump administration is actively discussing such a designation.
Most importantly, there was no surge in terrorism when Russia, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the UAE designated the Brotherhood as such.
