Obi-Wan Kenobi couldn’t have been more wrong when he said Mos Eisley was the most wretched hive of scum and villainy in the galaxy. Obviously, he’d never paid a visit to Washington, D.C., where the corruption flows like water from the tap, and it seems everyone has their finger in the mud.
Take, for example, former Congresswoman Corrine Brown’s longtime chief of staff who just pleaded guilty to the truly heinous crime of creating a fake charity to set up a slush fund.
According to ABC News:
The Florida Times-Union reports that 51-year-old Elias “Ronnie” Simmons pleaded guilty Wednesday to fraud conspiracy and theft. He had faced 18 counts in a July indictment.
Brown was charged at the same time. She has pleaded not guilty, and her trial is scheduled for April.
The charges followed an investigation into the purported charity One Door for Education. Federal prosecutors say it was billed as a way to give scholarships to poor students but instead filled the coffers of Brown and her associates.
Brown left office in January after losing the Democratic primary last year.
This is the kind of thing that has people sick and tired of politics as usual, and why so many turned out in droves to support Donald Trump’s bid for the presidency.
Politicians have been getting away with this kind of corruption for decade upon decade, and the American people have now decided to do something about it.
We’ll await the verdict on Congresswoman Brown. Her former chief of staff, however, deserves to be punished to the fullest extent of the law, and made an example of, so other corrupt politicians understand that their former practices are no longer tolerated, nor are they profitable.
That’s how you drain the swamp.
