Is it good news children in middle school are developing an interest in politics? Perhaps — except when they resort to violence to convey their opinions.
Having said that, they don’t have particularly good role models. And they’re learning very quickly how to convey “tolerance.”
A 12-year-old student in the St. Louis area found out the hard way how far tolerance goes when he wore a “Make America Great Again” hat on the school bus. But to add insult to injury, he was punished for it.
Fox News reports, Cellphone video obtained by KMOV shows a group of students ganging up on the boy and yelling about President Donald Trump’s proposed U.S.-Mexico border wall. It appears some punches were thrown.
“I saw him being berated and bullied and beat, literally beat, because he feels strongly about the world today,” the sixth-grader’s mother Christina Cortina told KMOV.
Cortina said she is outraged that her son was suspended in the aftermath of the incident, though he was the victim.
A representative for the Parkway School District said all students involved in the attack have faced “consequences” following a full investigation.
Is the boy facing “consequences” for defending himself or for wearing the hat in the first place?
Schoolboy fights can quickly escalate and it’s understandable schools feel disciplinary action is necessary for all parties involved. Furthermore, we don’t know the whole story, the history between the boys are even what happened before the recording was rolling. We’ve learned all too often that cellphone videos only tell part of the story.
Still, we’re in deep, deep doo-doo if the kid is seen as a provocateur simply because of his hat. And it’s also scary to think we’re all being bullied into hiding our opinions because of the tyranny of the left.
