Although the election was almost 3 months ago, and Donald Trump was sworn into office over a week ago, Democrats still can’t accept the fact they lost the election. If liberals are good at one thing, it’s whining about not getting their way. Liberals have been so upended, they’ve been willing to put national security and a functioning government at-risk just to be petty.
Despite liberals spending an entire year whining about what a travesty it was that the Supreme Court only had 8 members, some Senators are vowing to filibuster Trump’s nominee.
A Senate Democrat announced Monday that he will filibuster Donald Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court — setting up what would be only the second time in modern history that a nominee to the Court has been filibustered.
“We will use every lever in our power to stop this,” Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley told Politico. “A very large number of my colleagues will be opposed.”
Talk about hypocrisy! Not only does this fly in the face of what Democrats were saying mere months ago, it also shows they are playing politics with the Supreme Court. After all, Trump hasn’t even named his nominee publicly, but Democrats are vowing to block the nominee no matter who it is. Is the nominee qualified to sit on the nation’s highest court? “Who cares,” say Democrats, “it’s a Trump nominee.”
Thankfully, Democrats likely won’t be able to play these games for long, as the article goes on to point out:
In practical terms, a filibuster from Senate Democrats will almost certainly not prevent Trump from getting whichever nominee he wants. Even if all Senate Democrats decided to join Merkley, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has enough Republican votes to do away with the filibuster for Supreme Court nominations — and then invoke cloture to cut off debate.
Of course, Republicans have the ability to do this because they did this weird thing called winning elections. If Democrats had won a majority in the Senate, perhaps they would have a leg to stand on, but they don’t. Democrats lost both House and Senate, and now they want to meddle with the will of the American people.
At the time of this writing, a press conference was set to name the nominee later today.
