Liberals only care about laws when it serves their agenda. Like “same sex marriage” — come hell or high water, via activist judges, they made sure that law passed in states across the nation despite referendum votes against it.
Or let’s take “sanctuary cities” — we have federal laws against illegal immigration, but hey, if you’re a liberal mayor, you simply don’t have to enforce them. Law, shmaws.
Use of drugs like heavy drugs like heroin and crack cocaine is also illegal — but so what? People do it anyway. So in true liberal fashion, instead of trying to enforce the rule of law (that’s so mean), let’s just make it easier for people to do it. That’s the “humane” thing.
In another sign of cultural decline in Western civilization, Seattle has decided it will set up “safe sites” for users to feed their drug addiction.
The Washington Post reports, Officials in Seattle on Friday approved the nation’s first “safe-injection” sites for users of heroin and other illegal drugs, calling the move a drastic but necessary response to an epidemic of addiction that is claiming tens of thousands of lives each year.
The sites — which offer addicts clean needles, medical supervision and quick access to drugs that reverse the effects of an overdose — have long been popular in Europe. Now, with the U.S. death toll rising, the idea is gaining traction in a number of American cities, including Boston, New York City and Ithaca, N.Y.
While opponents say the sites promote illegal drug use, supporters say they can keep people alive and steer them toward treatment. They compare supervised injection facilities to the needle exchanges that became popular in the 1980s and 1990s as a way to stanch the spread of HIV and hepatitis C among intravenous drug users.
The sites are not currently legal under federal law, according to Kelly Dineen, a professor of health law at Saint Louis University School of Law. A provision of the Controlled Substances Act makes it illegal to operate facilities where drugs are used, she said.
But why let a little thing like a federal law get in the way of being kind to people?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a record 33,000 people died from opioid overdoses in 2015. Opioids now kill more people each year than car accidents. In 2015, the number of heroin deaths nationwide surpassed the number of deaths from gun homicides.
Wait…did you just see that? “In 2015, the number of heroin deaths nationwide surpassed the number of deaths from gun homicides.”
Where is the liberal outrage? Where are the marches for heroin control?
It’s already illegal, dammit. People are dying from drugs use in record numbers but the liberal response is to make it easier to use?
Well, something tells me things are about to turn around in this country regarding respect for the rule of law and his name is Donald J. Trump.
