Last week, first lady Michelle Obama confided in Oprah Winfrey that she feels hope has been lost in America. Funny thing, back in 2008 Mrs. Obama said she felt for the first time in her life proud of America because her husband was bringing hope to America.
Well, eight years later, the Obama version of hope — meaning progressive socialism, acquiescing to islamo-fascism, and allowing the encroachment of secular humanism has been rejected, utterly repudiated.
And in the last instance, we have another example of the emboldened secular humanist left.
As reported in Charisma News by Todd Starnes, (you can bet you won’t see this story on the liberal progressive media), “A beloved Florida middle-school coach was reprimanded for taking a knee during a student-led prayer on the football field.
Wakulla Middle School football coach Eddie Metcalf did not lead the prayer. He did not recite the prayer. He simply took a knee and bowed his head. But according to the Wakulla County School Board, that act of reverence is against the law.
“That’s not allowable under the law,” Superintendent Robert Pearce told television station WCTV. “The coach may not participate in the prayer.”
I wonder if the school district would’ve made a fuss if the middle-school coach had taken a knee to protest the national anthem. I reached out to the superintendent, hoping to get an answer to that question—but so far, he hasn’t returned my messages.
Not only was Coach Metcalf forbidden from participating in the prayer, he was not even allowed to give any public indication he was praying. “He may not kneel with the players,” the superintendent told the television station. “He may not put his hands on the players during the prayer. What we want our coaches to do—and what most people have survived with in regards to meeting the letter of the law—is to have separation from the players—two to three steps.”
The controversy started in November when the Freedom From Religion Foundation found a Facebook video of Coach Metcalf taking a knee after a football game. The FFRF is a group of perpetually offended atheists, agnostics and free-thinkers from Wisconsin who apparently troll Facebook preying on small towns and school districts. They are very unpleasant people. “Coach Metcalf’s conduct is unconstitutional because he endorses and promotes his religion when acting in his official capacity as a school district employee,” FFRF attorney Andrew Seidel wrote in a letter to the school district. They alleged that a middle-school football coach who takes a knee with his team to pray is a “serious and flagrant violation of the First Amendment.” As a result of the FFRF’s letter, the school district launched an investigation and determined the coach was guilty of bowing his head and taking a knee.”
Coach Metcalf does possess a freedom of religion, and has the right to the free exercise thereof, and there is no separation of church and state as defined by the insidious secular humanists at FFRF.
Just to remind you, these are the same chuckleheads who sent a letter to my alma mater, the University of Tennessee, demanding they cease and desist the practice of prayer before home football games at Neyland Stadium. They also went after Clemson University Coach, Dabo Sweeney, a strong and committed Christian. These men are not “establishing” a religion, and the ones in violation of Jefferson’s maxim, found in a letter written to the Danbury (CT) Baptist Convention, is the group FFRF.
What Jefferson intended was to preclude exactly what we see happening: state persecution of individuals for their religious beliefs and practice. Jefferson didn’t want a head of state and head of church, he wanted a separation between the two so individuals were free to have their religious beliefs and worship freely. That’s why this is the first of our First Amendment rights. It was just that important, coming off the lesson learned from King Henry VIIIth of England. Now, what do we have in America? A middle school football coach cannot take a knee and bow his head with his team.
So, is this an example of the hope that Michelle Obama embraces, that she feels is now dead in America? Christian businesses are being persecuted and prosecuted by the state. Coaches cannot kneel and bow their heads with teams without being threatened.
How is it that this group, FFRF, has become so very powerful, along with Mikey Weinstein and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), who funds these groups?
Just imagine this, what lesson are we teaching the young people here in America? If you are a pro football athlete, you can take a knee and disrespect the national anthem, get paid millions of dollars and become an iconic figure to the liberal progressive left.
Yet, a simple middle school football coach faces punishment for taking a knee in silent prayer with his team. Is this the “hope” that Barack and Michelle Obama want America to reflect? If that be the case, the sooner they depart the White House, 32 days, 13 hours, 38 minutes, and 20 seconds…the better. Well, the next 16 days they’ll be on their final taxpayer-funded vacation in Hawaii anyway.
Hmm, what hypocrisy, while the rest of the country is under a deep freeze and dealing with adverse winter weather, our modern day King Louis and Marie Antoinette vacation away in warm climate. Yep, gimme some of that elitist hope.
In November 2016, the folks who were bitterly clinging to their guns and their religion spoke at the ballot box. True, there are more of the secular humanists and progressive socialists, especially in those major population centers. However, they came together is strategic locations to offset the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia effect in Pennsylvania. They bonded together in Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan. They sent a message that we matter, that they didn’t want the fundamental transformation that has meant the blatant assault upon their simple way of life by the cocktail party attending elitists.
They said, we’re tired of being attacked for our Judeo-Christian faith heritage and being castigated with negative monikers. Coach Eddie Metcalf is a real hero, Colin Kaepernick is not — as I wrote to him in my letter from a non-oppressed black man.
The FFRF attorney Andrew Seidel is not a defender of our Constitution, he’s a perverter of our First Amendment right to freedom of religion and the free exercise thereof. Coach Metcalf’s simple obedient act of kneeling and bowing his head is welcomed by our Heavenly Father, and we know, as according to Romans Chapter Eight, “If God be for us, who can stand against us.”
Do not forget, it was the Democrat Party, who in 2012 at their national convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, had to vote to put God back into their platform, and that vote was booed. Yes, the progressive socialist left is in lock step with the secular humanist agenda, and that’s not the kind of hope we want in America.
The Lutheran hymn goes, “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness, I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name…on Christ the solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.”
The progressive socialist left and their secular humanist allies stand on sinking sand. Coach Eddie Metcalf knelt and bowed his head, but he stands on solid rock.
