There’s something that’s been missing since Donald J. Trump won the presidential election…wait for it…he has yet to say, “the mess I inherited.”
If you’ve noticed one thing, like it or not, he’s doing the business of being a president, a leader. Of course we can debate the tweeting, but President-elect Trump hasn’t even taken the seat, and he’s already dominating the news cycle. And he’s doing so because he’s conducting business.
Think back, did Barack Obama sit down with tech industry leaders after his election in 2008? Nah, he was too busy being measured for his crown and robe. And to hear Obama try and take credit for the incredible reaction we see coming from the Dow Jones Industrial average, well, that is “priceless.” You just have to ask, would Obama take credit if the market had crashed after a Trump victory? Oops, that’s right, the chucklehead pundits thought that it would — after all, they did predict the apocalypse.
Funny enough, we still hear utterances from the progressive socialist leftists that Obama couldn’t have done any better with the economy because of the mess he inherited. Hate to tell Obama’s acolytes, but in his second term, he inherited his own mess. And we’ve recently shared one of the Obama-created messes, Syria, and the mass genocide being conducted there. It is a genocide being aided by a Russia for whom Obama confided he would have more flexibility after his reelection. Thanks to Obama, that flexibility has meant the deaths of countless civilians not just in Syria, but in Crimea, and Ukraine. Another Obama mess was the failed Iranian executive agreement. The Iranians are also in Syria killing civilians with their terrorist henchmen of the Quds Force and Hezbollah.
And what is the hot topic with the brain dead liberal progressive media outlets? Yes, Donald Trump has a friendship with Vladimir Putin, and Russia was the cause of Hillary Clinton’s demise. Perhaps California Democrat elector Nancy Pelosi Jr. shouldn’t be demanding an intelligence briefing on Russia and our election. How interesting that the CIA declined, I mean refused, to appear before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence for a hearing. I guess they don’t have all that anecdotal, objective evidence and proof that CIA Director Brennan claims. Hmm, fascinating…
Well, there’s another little kerfuffle — which we’ve been sharing with y’all for sometime — that has reached a tipping point.
As reported by none other than NBC, the National Barack Channel, “A U.S. think tank says recent satellite images appear to show that China has installed anti-aircraft and anti-missile weapons on its man-made islands in the strategically vital South China Sea, upping the stakes in what many see as a potential Asian powder keg. The Center for Strategic and International Studies said in a report late Wednesday that the anti-aircraft guns and close-in weapons systems designed to guard against missile attack have been placed on all seven of China’s newly created islands. The outposts were built in recent years by piling sand on top of coral reefs followed by the construction of military grade 10,000-foot airstrips, barracks, lighthouses radar stations and other infrastructure.
CSIS based its conclusions on satellite images taken of the islands in mid-to-late November and published on the website of its Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative, which has been tracking construction of hexagonal structures on Fiery Cross, Mischief and Subi reefs in the Spratly Islands since June and July. China’s new island armaments “show that Beijing is serious about defense of its artificial islands in case of an armed contingency in the South China Sea,” CSIS experts wrote in the report.
Among other things, they would be the last line of defense against cruise missiles launched by the United States or others against these soon-to-be-operational air bases,” the report said. In all, China has reclaimed more than 3,200 acres of land in the southeastern South China Sea. The U.S. says the building doesn’t give China any additional territorial rights and an international arbitration panel in the Hague ruled over the summer against China’s historical claim to ownership of waters within the South China Sea. Beijing has ignored the ruling.”
First of all, why aren’t any of the liberal progressive environmental groups protesting and demanding action? Where is Leonardo di Caprio, Matt Damon, and the rest of the Hollywood entertainment elites? Shouldn’t they be angered about the destruction of the ocean coral reefs? Oops, sorry, forgot about that liberal progressive situational ethics thing…their chosen religion of “global warming” is supposedly destroying reefs because the oceans are warming. Heck, we know for certain that China IS destroying reef systems to make militarized and fortified contentious islands. Ya just gotta love the left. When you look up the word hypocrite in the dictionary, there’s a picture of a liberal progressive.
Secondly, it was the official foreign policy of the Obama administration — whose guiding principle was “don’t do stupid s**t” — to pivot from the Middle East and focus on the Pacific. I guess deploying a Marine Battalion to Australia didn’t send a clear message to Xi Jinping and China.
Now, something we need to all understand: these manmade militarized islands China has built are on a major sea lane of commerce where some 35 to 40 percent of global commodities and goods transit. Also, ask yourself, what happened the last time we had an Asian nation heavily invest in its maritime military force development, and fortify islands in the Pacific with airstrips and weaponry? Doggone, history certainly has a way of repeating itself, especially if you’re a weak, intransigent ideologue like a Barack Obama. Then again, it is all Bush’s fault, no the Russians, nah, it is part of Trumpocalypse. Regardless, you’re not going to hear the left discussing the deplorable state of global affairs in the remaining 35 days, 2 hours, 59 minutes, and 10 seconds of the Obama administration.
But, credit to President-elect Trump who has already evidenced his courage to stand up to China. When the left went apoplectic over his phone conversation with Taiwan’s president, Trump asked a simple question, when did the United States have to get China’s permission to take a phone call?
And Trump followed it up with one of his better tweets, “did China ask us for permission to build islands in the South China Sea?” This is exemplary of the type of resolve it will take to deter further expansionism, not just by China, but by Russia, Iran, North Korea, and the plethora of Islamic jihadist groups — all of whom have enjoyed the fruits of Obama’s flexibility.
At the same time, it has been Obama and his truly ignorant SecNav, Ray Mabus, who has been more focused on gender neutral duty positions and transgender handbooks for the Navy, who have decimated our Naval prowess. As well, they have wasted precious resources and not paid close attention to a failing Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program.
As China has been developing anti-ship and anti-satellite missiles, we’ve taken our U.S. Navy down to its lowest point since 1917, just under 283 combat surface vessels. Now, I am a proud Soldier, but I will be the first to admit, the means by which a nation projects its power is not through a massive land army, but with a strong and capable navy. That began with the Phoenicians, learned by the Athenians, Romans, Persians, Portuguese, Spain, Dutch, England, Germany, and of course Japan. It was a lesson we learned entering World War II, and we have sustained, until now. Our “global force for good” that conducted our first expeditionary operation against the Barbary Pirates, must be rebuilt while we are in contact with the enemy. Coupled with that, we cannot continue down the path of having the smallest Marine Corps since World War I. Yet Mabus is more concerned about having “infantry persons” in our venerable Corps. 1LT Pressley O’Bannon has to be rolling over in his grave.
It’s apparent President-elect Donald Trump is already doing that which is necessary to rectify the mess of economic failure from the eight years of Obama. He must also focus on how he will rebuild a decimated military capability and capacity to be a highly regarded deterrent force to thwart the type of aggression Barack Obama has simply dismissed — because he was just too much of a coward to face. For Obama, seeing our Sailors on their knees at gunpoint by the Iranians was just more preferable…after all, his SecState, a former Naval officer, thanked the Iranians.
And folks, that is just FUBAR.
