Last night both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton appeared at The Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner (commonly known as the Al Smith Dinner), the annual white tie fundraiser for Catholic charities supporting needy children held at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York on the third Thursday of October. The dinner is hosted by the archbishop of New York (Cardinal Timothy Dolan), and during an election cycle, it’s generally the last event where the presidential candidates share a stage before Election Day.
It’s a roast of sorts, with the candidates trading barbs, and Donald Trump had a particularly stellar moment during which he elicited a chorus of pained groans from the attendees. Naturally, that means he was right on the target.
DONALD TRUMP: Even tonight with all of the heated back and forth between my opponent and me at the debate last night we have proven that we can actually be civil to each other.
In fact, just before taking the dais Hillary accidentally bumped into me and she very civilly said, ‘Pardon me.’
[HILLARY CLINTON LAUGHS, CLAPS]
DONALD TRUMP: And I very politely replied, ‘Let me talk to you about that after I get into office.’
Here’s the clip.
Here are Trump’s full remarks.
Just thought you needed a little humor to start off your day. These days we take it wherever we can get it.
