I’d written about this previously on these pages, and it does appear my prediction may be coming to fruition. Could we be stumbling into a major global conflagration centered in the Middle East, specifically Syria?
This will be the legacy of one Barack Obama, our modern-day Neville Chamberlain. As Churchill chided him back in 1938, “you had a choice between dishonor and war; you chose dishonor and we shall have war.” The policies and absurd statements of Barack Obama have led us into a dishonored state of global disrespect and abject dismissal. Consider the infamous “reset button” handed over to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov by then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Ponder the insidious decision to withdraw all US troops from the foothold they’d fought to establish in Iraq, driving out Islamic jihadists — supported by Hillary Clinton. And mind you, how is it that we all of a sudden have a SOFA (Status of Forces Agreement) in Iraq, since Obama has deployed nearly 6,000 US troops back into that combat theater of operations?
Never forget the dumbfounding off-mic statement by Barack Obama to Dmitry Medvedev prior to his re-election: “tell Vladimir I will have more flexibility after my re-election.” I find those words more perverse and detrimental to the United States than some boyish locker room talk from 11 years ago.
It was Barack Obama who issued such empty threats as, “Bashar Assad must go” and “if Syria uses chemical weapons, that is a red line”…along with we shall defeat ISIS. It was Barack Obama who destabilized Libya and has thumbed his nose at our Middle Eastern allies such as Israel, Egypt, and Jordan — confusing to say the least, troubling at its worse. And much the same as when no one paid attention to the events surrounding the unrest in the Balkans that resulted in the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and his wife, the “great” powers fell into what was to be called “the war to end all wars.”
As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, The land of Syria is a hellscape. A desert ruin, a blasted place where fundamentalists clash with fascists as major powers—America, Russia, Turkey, Israel—drop bombs.
After a U.S.-brokered cease-fire collapsed in recriminations, Washington responded by saying it wouldn’t talk to Moscow about the war. Then Moscow announced its intention to pull out of a nuclear agreement with Washington, and moved an advanced anti-aircraft system into Syria. President Obama sought a “Plan B” (good luck with that). Meanwhile, at the vice presidential debate, both Tim Kaine and Mike Pence called for humanitarian “safe zones” protected by U.S. forces.
Where does this end? The Russian objective is clear. Vladimir Putin wants to rescue Bashar Assad, preserve access to warm-water ports, embarrass America, and become a player in the Middle East.
What is less certain is America’s objective. We want to destroy ISIS. And we say we want Assad out—though how that can be accomplished at this point without risking open war with Russia is unknown. As is who rules a divided, ravaged Syria after the total collapse of its government.
We are flying blind. And the problem is much larger than the Middle East. A rudderless America, in a moment of transition, is heedlessly reacting to events rather than influencing them. What Halford Mackinder dubbed the world-island of Eurasia is ringed by wars both hot and cold—from the Baltics to the Donbas, across the Shiite crescent, along the Indo-Pakistani border, through the South and East China Seas.
Putin tests NATO, fuels guerilla war in Ukraine, and pummels Aleppo. Turks fight ISIS and Kurds. America fights ISIS in Syria and Iraq. Iran sends aid to Hezbollah, militias to Syria, and swift boats to the Straits of Hormuz. India and Pakistan battle over Kashmir. Americans fight in Afghanistan. China builds its forces in the Pacific. North Korea flirts with nuclear war.
This planet is laced with dynamite. Only one spark is necessary to light it up. And the chances of miscalculation are immense.
At the vice presidential debate, Tim Kaine talked about an “intelligence surge,” which is Hillary Clinton’s policy response — what?!! We don’t need an intelligence surge, any chucklehead can see what’s happening. What we need is a strong leader who will listen to the national security and foreign policy experts. What we need is to resurrect the mantra of “peace through strength” and restore our military to being a capable deterrent force. What we need to is regain our respect and regard — first with our alliances, and secondly, by exhibiting resolve to our enemies.
There are some very serious hurricane-force winds of war blowing, and history has evidenced this before — especially leading up to World War II. And as George Santayana is attributed with saying, “those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” We have immense issues with a failing economy, which means we have a serious threat to our national security. The Obama administration goal has been to weaken our force — the Obama military is more concerned with lactation, transgenders and other side show antics. The focus for Barack Obama has been societal “change” and the expansion of the welfare nanny-state and dependency society, meaning government largesse going to more subsistence programs.
And even Bill Clinton has admitted Obamacare — twenty new taxes and an expansion of Medicaid — is a mess, a failure. But, perhaps that is what the progressive socialist left always wanted — a single payer healthcare system. They can claim they tried with Obamacare, and of course they will blame the health insurance industry, as the left always needs a scapegoat in order to advance their real objective, complete government control of healthcare.
And while these demented and delusional socialists destroy our economy and erode our strength as a Nation, the new axis of evil forms and marches on. It’s stated in the Bible that the devil seeks to steal, kill and destroy, and that he is the “author of confusion.” Well, I don’t know when was the last time we witnessed a more confusing state of affairs when it comes to global security. And this has all come on the watch of the fella who was given his own little “participation trophy,” by way of a Noble Peace Prize, for doing nothing! Saul Alinsky dedicated his book “Rules for Radicals” to Lucifer. Alinsky was from Chicago. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are also from Chicago; Clinton was an understudy of Alinsky. Sadly, too many Americans are not critical thinkers, thanks to the progressive socialist public school system which — which, of course, reminds us state control of education is one of Karl Marx’s points from the Communist Manifesto.
Folks, we just cannot be this dumb as a Nation. If we choose the be, the consequences and ramifications are of monumental proportions.
