There are a number of people out there in the political world who truly are mean spirited and deceitful – but in the case of our liberal pundits, most are simply naive and clueless.
This couldn’t have been any more clear over at MSNBC. Just yesterday, we saw episode one million of MSNBC Cluelessness — the Benghazi edition. As NewsBusters reported: Reacting to Huffington Post reporter Laura Bassett highlighting during Tuesday’s Hardball that a Donald Trump advisor recently “called for Hillary to face a firing squad” for her handling of Benghazi in light of Trump’s new gun comments, MSNBC host Chris Matthews used the occasion to bloviate about how he “keep[s] wondering what she did in Benghazi” that has people so upset.
Matthews also took a few shots at the House Select Committee on Benghazi for failing “to run a decent hearing” and instead “ask[ed] stupid question after stupid question” instead of, in his mind, establishing what happened to the late Ambassador Chris Stevens on September 11, 2012.
So just to review… after commenting about what one of Trump’s advisors said, they both tried to somehow link this to Trump’s recent comments stating he believed the gun lobby’s political influence could stop Hillary and make this somehow a threat of violence. Matthews then pondered what exactly Hillary Clinton did wrong in Benghazi. Huh?
Even if we were to set aside Hillary’s inaction during the attacks, her attempted cover-up of the attacks alone is worth ridicule. She lied about the attack, claiming it was due to an anti-Muslim YouTube video that practically nobody watched, rather than acknowledging a terrorist attack was carried out against Americans on the anniversary of 9/11. We know from Hillary’s emails and phone records she had privately acknowledged the attack to be an act of terrorism before going out to the public and lying.
Hillary’s crimes, of course, weren’t limited solely to lying about the attack. As we reported back in December, “An email recently obtained by Judicial Watch shows that the Pentagon was demanding Hillary allow them to send help to Benghazi during the 2012 attack. This would completely contradict the claim from Hillary and Leon Panetta that no forces were available and within reach to provide help to the compound that was under siege.”
On second thought, perhaps it was a bit rash to judge Matthews’ comments so harshly. I don’t know why I was surprised that a MSNBC host doesn’t know anything.
