BREAKING: Shooting at U.S. airport…

We’re just learning of a shooting at a Dallas, Texas area airport. Preliminary details are just coming in… here’s what we know so far.

As Dallas Morning News reports:

An officer-involved shooting prompted a lockdown Friday afternoon at Dallas Love Field Airport.

Video posted on Instagram shows officers responding about 12:20 p.m. with their guns drawn. Several shots can be heard as authorities yelled for someone to stay down.

The suspect was taken to a hospital. The video does not show that any officers were wounded.

Mark Duebner, Dallas’ director of aviation, said he does not know the suspect’s status, and referred all questions concerning the shooting to Dallas police, who have a spokesperson at the scene.

At least nine shots were fired in the video. A woman can be heard screaming and a man can be heard repeating “Oh my God, oh God.”

Baggage claim remains closed, but other parts of the airport had been reopened. Duebner said just before 1 p.m. that the entire airport had to be emptied, because during the panic, some passengers ran past the TSA security checkpoint.

“Right now we’re going to have to empty the terminal, sweep it to make sure it’s empty and rescreen them,” he said. “It doesn’t take too long to get people out of the airport. It’s a question of how long it will take TSA to get everyone rescreened.”

Duebner said officials are segregating the area where the incident happened, while working to get the airport “operational” again by 2 p.m. local time.

So far, there is no confirmation about what led to the incident, though reports the suspect, who was shot by police, had been throwing rocks at a car and yelling “shoot me, shoot me. I dare you,” according to witnesses.

While a shooting is never what we want to be hearing about and reporting, if indeed this was the result of a domestic disturbance, it’s certainly far preferable to the other scenarios that immediately come to mind when one hears shooting and airport in the same breath these days.

We’ll update as details warrant.

Local media is reporting that some parts of the airport reopened soon after the shooting, while the baggage claim area remained closed as authorities investigate. Flights in and out of the airport are

Police believe it was a domestic dispute between a man and a woman that led to shooting. A Dallas police spokesman said the officer who wounded the man acted in self-defense after the man threatened him with a large rock.

Though police have not identified the suspect, they have noted a “black car” that was involved.
