JUST IN: Insiders say Gringrich will be Trump’s VP – but here’s what NEWT says

For whatever reason, Newt Gingrich appears to be the candidate most people think will be Trump’s eventual pick for vice president, despite the numerous other candidates whose names have floated around — including the ones Ben Carson inadvertently dropped today. Roughly a third of those placing bets on Trump’s VP nominee are betting on the former Speaker.

We haven’t heard Newt himself express interest in being Trump’s VP, but he has strongly endorsed the candidate. Due to all the hype, Newt was asked by Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday whether or not he would consider the job.

According to The Blaze, Gingrich replied “I don’t think it’s an automatic yes,” Gingrich said. But, he said, “I’d be hard-pressed not to say yes,” under the right circumstances.”

Gingrich entertained the possibility of serving as vice president to Trump, but noted that he would have to discuss the issue with his wife Calista.

Trump claimed last week that he has five or six names on his list of potential running mates. He said that he would announce his decision in July at the Republican convention in Cleveland.

Gingrich added Sunday that his decision to accept the role of vice president would depend largely on what duties Trump would expect from him and whether Trump views the job as something “doable” and “serious.”

Some of the other names that have floated around as potential VP picks include Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz – though I don’t imagine either of them taking him up on the offer.
