BREAKING: Shooting at Target store…

Updated as of 2:52pm CDT:

Thankfully, no one has been injured and authorities have discovered the suspect didn’t have a gun — despite initial reports. Daily Journal just posted this update:

A man has been arrested after dozens of police responded to reports of an “active shooter” at the Target store in Bradley.

But after nearly an hour of frenetic police action and plenty of rumors, we’ve learned that the suspect had no gun and was arrested without incident, according to Bradley police.

There is no word yet on why the man was arrested, but it appears he may be facing disorderly conduct charges.

Original post:

Police in Illinois are investigating reports of an active shooter situation in a Target store in Illinois, about 55 miles south of Chicago.

As NBC Chicago reports:

A person has been taken into custody after reports of an active shooter situation at a Target store in Bourbonnais, police said.

Just after 1 p.m., multiple police agencies responded to the Target at 1615 N State Route 50 in Bourbonnais, about 55 miles southwest of Chicago, following reports of an active shooter.

Nearby stores in the shopping complex were placed on lockdown.

Laura Neveau, who works at a nearby salon, said police were stationed at the entrance of the shopping complex on Route 50 and the road leading into the parking lot, turning away people.

By 1:30 p.m., Bradley police said the scene was secure and a suspect was apprehended.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

The Kankakee Valley of Illinois Daily Journal reported that though there are no reports of injuries, ambulances have arrived nearby across Illinois Route 50 at Best Buy. Employees and other people are reportedly gathered just outside the store.

Target Corp. has been been making headlines lately in the midst of controversy over its trangender bathroom policy, which allows customers to use the bathroom corresponding to whatever gender they identify with. More than one million people have signed a petition to boycott the retailer, and both the company’s stock and brand image have hit the rocks lately.

No word yet on whether today’s shooter situation has any connection to the recent bathroom controversy. We’ll monitor the situation and provide you with updates as they are available.
