I am writing y’all from my bat cave here in Washington DC, and will be here through Wednesday. What I immediately noticed upon landing at Reagan National Airport are all the construction cranes here in our nation’s capital. And many of these cranes were located in the area by the Washington Nationals baseball field — that place is booming. My concern is, there are more construction cranes in DC, but less on Main Street. Sure, folks are being put to work here, but what about all the millions of folks all over America who’ve been dropped from the employment rolls, leaving us with a dismal 62.7 percent workforce participation rate?
Anyway, I had two very interesting meetings yesterday. One was at the Competitive Enterprise Institute to discuss the issue of energy security and environment. The other meeting was with Brigadier General (Ret) Creighton W. Abrams Jr. — his brother was my commanding officer when I served in the 2d Infantry Division in Korea, 1995. BG Abrams and I discussed the building of a National Museum of the United States Army. BG Abrams is the Executive Director of the Army Historical Foundation, of which I am a founding member of the 1814 Society.
What was interesting about these two meetings was how they related to the recent decree emanating from the Pentagon via the Obama administration.
As reported by the Washington Times, “The Pentagon is ordering the top brass to incorporate climate change into virtually everything they do, from testing weapons to training troops to war planning to joint exercises with allies.
A new directive’s theme: The U.S. Armed Forces must show “resilience” and beat back the threat based on “actionable science.” It says the military will not be able to maintain effectiveness unless the directive is followed. It orders the establishment of a new layer of bureaucracy — a wide array of “climate change boards, councils and working groups” to infuse climate change into “programs, plans and policies.”
The Pentagon defines resilience to climate change as: “Ability to anticipate, prepare for, and adapt to changing conditions and withstand, respond to, and recover rapidly from disruptions.”
To four-star generals and admirals, among them the regional combatant commanders who plan and fight the nation’s wars, the directive tells them: “Incorporate climate change impacts into plans and operations and integrate DoD guidance and analysis in Combatant Command planning to address climate change-related risks and opportunities across the full range of military operations, including steady-state campaign planning and operations and contingency planning.”
The directive, “Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience,” is in line with President Obama’s view that global warming is the country’s foremost national security threat, or close to it. Mr. Obama says there is no debate on the existence of man-made global warming and its ensuing climate change. Supporters of this viewpoint label as “deniers” any scientists who disagree.”
So it’s interesting that yesterday I was meeting about global warming, climate change — whatever the liberal progressive left wants to call it — and then I chatted about a museum to honor the legacy of our Army.
It is a legacy horribly threatened by ideologues who are using our military and endangering our national security over their insidious agenda. Since when did President Barack Obama get a degree in meteorology? Last time I checked he was the commander in chief of our armed forces, not a doggone weather man. Obama continues to display increasing delusion by “ordering” our commanders to include climate change in their military plans and operations.
I suppose this is the reason why the engines on those Navy Riverine assault boats shut down – maybe they’d exceeded some arbitrarily-instituted emissions control levels? What exactly are commanders supposed to do in prioritizing climate change in their operations? Does this mean our tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, amphibious assault vehicles, helicopters, fighter jets, and all other military equipment are supposed to calculate effects on the climate before conducting operations? Will there now be some mandate stating that these types of combat equipment can only be operated for so many hours a day before reaching a “climate change threshold?”
I just have to ask, what did Obama sign up the United States for in this Paris agreement? And let me remind you: nothing he signed is binding because it hasn’t been brought before our US Senate for ratification — it is a treaty and hopefully Republican Senator Bob Corker learned his lesson. However, how can it be that Barack Obama is using our military and sacrificing our national security for his pet agenda of believing he can control the weather?
Do not forget this comes from the same Obama who refused to engage ISIS fuel trucks because he wanted to avoid an “environmental crisis.” I’m REALLY glad Obama wasn’t president during World War II when the Germans set their sights on the Ploesti oil fields in Romania…and we blew the heck out of them. And does anyone believe this will improve under a Hillary Clinton presidency? Mrs. Clinton went so far as to state she’ll stop ALL fossil fuels — so what exactly will our military operate with, solar panels and wind turbines? And exactly what does it mean that our military won’t be able to “maintain effectiveness unless the directive is followed?”
The effectiveness of our military is based on their readiness and ability to fight and win our nation’s wars against declared enemies – but apparently Obama dismisses the real enemy in order to avoid confrontation.
Last year at the U..S Coast Guard commencement at New London Connecticut, you might recall (per the Washington Post), “President Obama warned…that climate change is a growing and “serious threat” to national security, tying severe weather to the rise of the extremist group Boko Haram in Nigeria and the civil war in Syria. In his latest bid to turn up political pressure on Republicans over the environment, Obama challenged 218 newly commissioned officers at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy to take the threats of climate as seriously as they would a cutter in peril on the seas. “You don’t sit back; you take steps to protect your ship,” Obama said. “Anything less is a dereliction of duty. The same is true for climate change.”
We are living in dangerous times with a level of radical derangement I don’t think our Republic has ever seen. The religion of the progressive socialist left is climate change. And they will weaken our nation’s military, using it as a tool for their disturbing purpose. The men and women of our military are holding on, but we must do our duty and rescue them from the demented agenda of the liberal progressives — or else we may not survive the barbarians focused on fighting and killing us — not the weather.
