Apparently, legendary comedian John Cleese has been advised not to perform on university campuses for fear of offending the delicate snowflakes that litter coddled campuses. First-class Cleese comedy would leave them angry, outraged, tearful and absolutely beside themselves with rage and horror.
As reported by The Daily Mirror in London:
John Cleese says that political correctness and fear of offending could lead to a 1984-style society.
The Monty Python star said he has now been advised not to perform on university campuses as the idea of political correctness has expanded so far that any kind of criticism is now seen as ‘cruel’.
He says: ‘If you start to think “ooh, we mustn’t criticise or offend them”, humour is gone, with humour goes a sense of proportion, and then as far as I’m concerned we’re living in 1984.’
Cleese, whose jokes about Germans and Spanish waiter Manuel in Fawlty Towers could well be considered offensive today, said that ‘all comedy is critical,’…
This is not the first time Cleese has castigated political correctness. In 2014, he lamented to Bill Maher that he could make jokes about the French and Australians – but if he mentioned Mexicans it was deemed unacceptable.
The anti-freedom crusaders will always defend the barricades of their own minds with anti-free speech bazookas. Millennials and social media have weaponized political correctness. And yet the media report their every whine.
In what way does trawling through the Twitter droppings of the angry Left qualify as journalism?
While we’re on the topic, why must I be content with some less privileged rubric? I’d ask any Starbucks barista, but I don’t want to be poisoned. But seriously. Why do blacks and other assorted ethnicities get to be “people of color”, with all the spurious rights and privileges pertaining thereto, while I, who most certainly possess a colour, am left out of the great politically-correct grievance mongering stakes?
As John Cleese has found out, the professors who have been wardens incarcerating minds, have been successful.
