Danny DeVito has joined the long list of celebrities voicing their opinion on race and the Oscars. The Academy Awards have been the subject of attention for nominating entirely white actors for the second year in a row, with many alleging racial bias.
The Academy has already caved to pressure, and has announced changes to double “the number of women and diverse members” by 2020.
Still, actors are voicing their opinion on what they think this situation all means.

Actor Danny DeVito is the latest to weigh in on the lack of diversity at the Oscar’s, saying it’s not the award show that’s to blame.
DeVito said that Americans ‘are a bunch of racists’, according to People.com.
‘It’s unfortunate that the entire country is a racist country,’ Danny told the AP at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.
‘So this is one example of the fact that even though people were giving great performances in movies, they weren’t even thought about. We are living in a country that discriminates and has certain racist tendencies,’ he said.
‘So sometimes it manifests itself in something like this, and it’s illuminated. But just, generally speaking, we’re a bunch of racists,’ he added.
So with liberal logic, while the actions of Islamic extremists don’t represent all Muslims, the actions of the liberals at the Academy Awards represents all Americans?
I think we can all acknowledge that racism is bad because it characterizes people into groups rather than evaluates them as individuals – but DeVito is doing just that when he judges society by the actions of a few in the entertainment industry.
All this controversy proves is that in a country where awards are given on merit, there will be racial imbalances. Nobody is complaining about whites being underrepresented in the NBA and NFL.
