In case you missed it, roving gangs of up to 1,000 “Arab and North African” men carried out a mass sexual assault on New Year’s Eve in the German city of Cologne.
The Guardian says “About 100 complaints have now been made to police, two-thirds of which are linked to sexual assault, including two rapes. According to police and witnesses, the perpetrators were of north African and Arab appearance, although neither the identity nor origin of any of them has so far been established.”
The Guardian also says both the police and the media are being accused of a massive cover-up over the incident over fears of fomenting anti-foreigner sentiment in the wake of the refugee crisis.
Police in Hamburg, Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf have also reported similar incidents but on a smaller scale than Cologne.
Does this mean it was a coordinated sexual terror attack? We may never know. But one thing is for certain: the typical liberal response to this is infuriating.
Blame the victim – that was essentially Cologne’s Mayor Henriette Reker’s response.
Reker this week issued a “code of conduct” for WOMEN – not for men – in the wake of the attacks.
The Independent says“The suggested code of conduct includes maintaining an arm’s length distance from strangers, to stick within your own group, to ask bystanders for help or to intervene as a witness, or to inform the police if you are the victim of such an assault.
In anticipation of large carnivals in the city centre in February, Mayor Reker promised an increased police presence. She warned young women about potential dangers of drunken events.”
So, let me get this straight. Germany has been celebrating New Year’s Eve, Fasching (the carnival season) and Oktoberfest for how many hundreds of years, and now all of a sudden these things are a problem to women? What a strange coincidence that Germany has just welcomed close to a million “refugees” in the past year.
“Mayor Reker also said a “better explanation” to asylum seekers was needed about the meaning of the annual carnivals.
“We need to prevent confusion about what constitutes happy behaviour and what is utterly separate from openness, especially in sexual behaviour,” she said.”
Yes, you mean like unwanted groping and rape – that kind of “openness?”
“The attackers were described as North African and Arab appearance by the police. The Mayor has said that not all of the attackers were newly-arrived refugees and had already been known to the police, as reported by The Local.”
Somehow I don’t find that comforting at all. And it doesn’t appear this problem will be going away soon.
You can thank German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” for welcoming these sexual predators with open arms. But you can be sure German citizens are only going to put up with this for so long.
