Although this past weekend should have been full of happiness and joy, it was apparently full of violence and mayhem as well, as thousands of young people rioted at shopping malls across the country.
The largest riot was at Mall St. Matthews in Kentucky where between 1,000 and 2,000 people were running amok and fighting. Police think the riot may have been organized via social media.
However, as of today, not a single arrest was made.
In New Jersey, 500 people were involved in a “large disturbance” Saturday night at the Deptford Center.
In Baltimore, a group of 100 or more people gathered outside the Towson Town Center.
And at the Patrick Henry Mall in Newport News, Virginia fights broke out among several groups of teens.
But what’s the key fact in all of these mall brawls that the media simply will not report? The vast majority of the participants are black.
Does our nation need to have “an honest discussion about race?” It surely does. Let’s start with the media first.
