I’ll be honest here. I think I could just write a whole article about the phrase “self identify as white” because just that alone makes my blood boil. But that’s not even the story. That’s just one of the ridiculous details of the story.
So here’s the whole story. You’re going to really
love hate this.
As Campus Reform reports, “The University of Vermont held a three-day retreat so students who “self-identify as white” could confront their own “white privilege.”
“Examining White Privilege: A Retreat for Undergraduate Students Who Self-Identify as White” took place last weekend, November 13-15, and was “specifically for white students.”
Well, it’s not really specifically for white students, is it? It’s for students who “self-identify” as white, so they could be any particular shade of anything.
And do they really even have to be students? Or could they simply self-identify as students? You know, they walk around with backpacks, and stay up all night eating pizza and thinking about term papers, but don’t actually take classes. But they FEEL like they’re students inside.
“According to the university, the self-identifying white students who attend the retreat will come to “recognize and understand white privilege from an individual experience” and have the opportunity to “conceptualize and articulate whiteness from a personal and systematic lense as well as the impact of white privilege on the UVM community and beyond.”
The self-identifying white students also tackled tough questions such as “What does it mean to be white?” and “How does whiteness impact you?”
So here’s what I want to know. If you are not actually white, but self-identify as white, how does your not real whiteness actually impact you? Are you identifying with your self or your self-identified self?
“The university website features testimonials from past attendees of the retreat, who praised the way the event was a “safe space.”
That’s nice. I’m sure it was a gun-free zone. Makes it very safe.
“Additionally, the university’s Center for Cultural Pluralism recommends various readings for its students, including “The Invention of the White Race,” “White Privilege, Male Privilege in Race, Class, Gender,” “The Feminist Classroom,” and “The Abolition of Whiteness.”
Gee that last one sounds like a great read. I’m going to check that one out right after I finish “The Abolition of Jewishness,” “The Abolition of Femininity” and the “The Abolition of Blackness.” Oh wait! You mean they don’t offer those books as well? What kind of a learned institution is this?
Silly me. It’s a LIBERAL one.
Folks, you probably think this whole article was a joke. I certainly wish it were. But every time I think liberals have hit a new level of complete insanity, there’s a new level, more absurd than the last. And here it is (for today).
