Our week is getting off to a horrific start, with what seems to be an all-too frequent occurrence.
USA Today reports that “One man was killed and two people were wounded in a shooting rampage near New York’s Penn Station just as Monday’s morning rush was getting underway, local media are reporting.
The manhunt was underway for the gunman or gunmen, WABC-TV reported. The wounded were rushed to Bellevue hospital in serious condition, the station said.
Several streets were closed and some bus lines rerouted while police investigated at the scene, “Street closures in the area of 35 St. & 8th Ave in Manhattan due to police investigation. Use alternate routes,” police warned commuters in tweet.”
“The shooting took place at about 6:15 a.m. a block from where three subway lines meet. The Daily News, citing police, said a 43-year-old man was killed, a 45-year-old man was shot in the neck and abdomen and was and critically injured, and a 48-year-old man was wounded in the leg. Three men were seen fleeing the scene, possibly in a silver vehicle, the newspaper’s website reported.”
It is unknown whether the shooters knew their victims. The Daily News says “The assailant has not been captured, but sources say three men were seen fleeing the 6:15 a.m. shooting near the intersection of 35th and 8th Avenue in a silver vehicle.”
We pray for the victims and their families and for swift justice for those would commit these acts.
