This week I travelled to Stoughton, Massachusetts for my dear friend Rabbi Jon Hausman who heads up Congregation Ahavrath Torah to speak on the subject of “Patriotic Vigilance.” I tend to believe that’s something folks in Massachusetts know a little about — historically. I wrote this writing during last night’s debate, so I missed what little discussion there was on the current situation in the Middle East. And why should there have been?
After all, President Obama has defined leadership as leading on climate change, and he is the leader of the Democrat Party. Not much was mentioned about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the Iranian nuclear agreement either. We reported here yesterday that Iran has actually already violated the U.N. weapons ban on ballistic missiles with their recent launch. The JCPOA states that ban will be lifted in eight years — perhaps the Iranians have been studying common core math.
The Democrat Party topline on the JCPOA is that it’s the only and best possible course of action — the only other thing is war. Hmm, sounds very familiar, kinda like “peace in our time” a la 1938, and I don’t believe Anderson Cooper or CNN moderators of the debate would understand the parallels of history. But what happens when one side displays weakness, recalcitrance, reticence, and the complete avoidance of confrontation to evil? History tells us that answer. And wouldn’t you know, it’s happening again.
As reported by Jihad Watch, “ Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy General Alireza Tangsiri warned enemies against any aggressive move, and said the IRGC forces will chase the US troops even to the Gulf of Mexico if they ever make a mistake and take a hostile move against Iran.
“I declare now that if the enemy wants to spark a war against Iran, we will chase them even to the Gulf of Mexico and we will (certainly) do it,” Tangsiri told FNA on Monday. He downplayed enemies’ war rhetoric against Iran, and said, “They have tested us once and if necessary, there are people who will blow up themselves with ammunitions to destroy the U.S. warships.”
Tangsiri referred to the IRGC’s detention of four U.S. military men and two Kuwaitis in the Persian Gulf almost 13 years ago sailing on two boats equipped with different state-of-the-art weapons who intended to cross Arvand river in Southern Iran, and said, “The footage and their equipment (seized by Iran) still exist but we didn’t publicize it for security reasons.”
He said when the American forces found out that the IRGC forces were approaching them, they surrendered without any resistance, adding that they were under detention for four days.”
Remember, this is the same Iran which is holding four Americans hostage right now and just two days ago, convicted an American Washington Post journalist of espionage in their kangaroo court system. And consider that during the entire negotiations over the JCPOA there was NEVER a mention or threat of walking out and demanding the release of our four Americans. Spare me the claims of empty rhetoric when the Iranian leadership leads regular Friday chants of “death to America” and “death to Israel.”
Here is another parallel from 1936-1939 and today. When Adolf Hitler was designing all these grand plans, the German general staff thought him mad. They didn’t believe the great Western powers would allow Germany to rebuild its economy and military prowess. When Hitler decided he would take the industrial Rhineland, the Army staff prepared for the worse — what happened? Hitler took the Rhineland without firing a shot. He then annexed Austria — where Mr. President they do not speak Austrian — demanded the Sudetenland to protect ethnic Germans, and it was surrendered. All the while, Hitler was providing his war machinery to support General Franco in the Spanish Civil War — the great Western powers said nothing. Hitler then launched into Czechoslovakia and Chamberlain was dispatched — just for a piece of paper to be signed. Imagine the boldness that had grown with the German people, and even more so with their newly remade Army, Navy, and Luftwaffe. And so came the blitzkrieg into Poland.
We can dismiss the words of Iranian Republican Guards Corps leaders, but there is one thing for certain — they are advancing, winning, and not meeting any opposition. When they speak of “chasing U.S. troops into the Gulf of Mexico” and know our president speaks of leading on climate change ask yourself, who has the perceived high ground?
Couple that with the American withdrawal from Iraq — where in Baghdad you have Iranian and Russian military advisors. Couple THAT with the fact that Russia and Iran have deployed their forces into Syria, on the ground, while our president declares what he is NOT willing to do — seems very similar to German engagement in the Spanish Civil War.
Let’s be very honest, can the Iranians chase us back to the Gulf of Mexico? Nah, but they have chased us out of the Middle East — which inspires them to fight as they perceive weakness. And they know that just as in 1979, they’ve taken American hostages and we’ve done nothing — not even a decent protest. Wouldn’t it have been a better show of strength to deny the Iranian delegation entry into America for the recent U.N. General Assembly unless our hostages were released? Quds Force Commander Qassem Suleimani has an international travel ban levied against him — at least that’ds what is on paper, because he’s all over the place. Do you think that shows operating from a position of weakness for the Iranians?
“The missiles that we have now can hit the targets with a higher precision than their foreign counterparts, including even the Israeli missiles and the (anti-ship cruise) Penguin missiles,” Tangsiri said.
In relevant remarks earlier this month, Commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said all US military bases in the Middle-East are within the range of the IRGC’s missiles, but the country still sees no restriction for boosting its missile capabilities. “Some of the threats by the US are aimed at appeasing the Zionists, while others are for the purpose of domestic consumption (in the US), but what is important is that they are aware of and acknowledge our capabilities and deterrence power; we do not feel any need to increase the range of our missiles and (our perceived enemy) targets are fully within the range of our missiles,” Brigadier General Hajizadeh said, addressing a group of professors of Iran’s Science and Technology University in Tehran.”
First of all, we must admit and recognize that President Obama will do nothing — after all he is leading on climate change. That means the enemies of America realize they have a full sixteen months to run amok and do as they wish –from their position of weakness, according to Obama. It would be best to hit this gathering storm before it becomes full strength and entrenched.
The November 2016 election results will signal to the world of despots, dictators, theocrats and autocrats — including the Islamic jihadists — if America will self correct and be serious about its global standing and regard. The Iranians released the 52 hostages when Reagan was elected.
God, I pray that Reznain, Hekmati, Abedini, and Levinson do not have to wait that long. I pray that the people of Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia do not have to wait that long. I pray our allies in the Pacific Rim do not have to wait that long. I pray that Christians — Assyrians, Chaldeans — and the Kurds along with the Egyptians, Jordanians, Emirates do not have to wait that long.
Sadly America, we let a lot of folks down because we wanted a silly feel good moment — twice.
