Here’s another story that comes under the heading of “would be funny if it weren’t true.”
A women’s and gender studies lecturer at North Carolina State University is docking her students’ grades for using “sexist language” in class assignments, according to The College Fix.
Nancy Bishop, who is teaching the class online, said in an email that she’s issuing language directives because of the vulgar language of previous students.
“I have had students call women ‘b*****s’ and ‘gold digging h*’s’ or label women as ‘maid’s or the dishwasher’—etc. and some female students label men as ‘typical a** chasing d***s’, etc.,” she said.”
Okaaaay, fair enough. That sounds offensive to me. But get a load of the solution:
“You may NOT use ‘he’ or ‘him’ or ‘man’ to refer to both men and women,” it continues. Bishop tells students they can replace “mankind” with “humans” or “humankind,” and should write “she or he” instead of just “he,” though the syllabus is unclear on whether students should always lead with a female pronoun.”
How ‘bout just telling the students to “clean up your f***ing mouths, a** wipes?” I know, that probably won’t help the situation, but it’s probably what they’d say in the Army (I’ll have to check with Col. West on that one).
But no, instead of just talking about common decency and manners, Bishop says “Thanks to evolution, generalized pronouns and other biased references are no longer acceptable in any class,” per her syllabus in a section on “Non-Sexist Language.”
Wait…what am I missing about evolution? Is the human species evolving into a non-specific gender blob? How the heck will we ever reproduce? Send in the clones, I guess…
Oh, but this isn’t even an isolated instance.
As Col. West reported over the weekend, the University of Tennessee is now pushing for “gender neutral” pronouns to be used across campus in order to make the university more inclusive and welcoming to all. This is particularly useful for those who “don’t identify within the gender binary,” according to the school’s director of its Pride Center.
I suppose now we’re supposed to take as normal that humans can be of “mixed sex” just like they can be of “mixed race” – although according to estimates, less than half a percent of the population identifies as transgender, and an even smaller number is actually physically born with mixed sex characteristics.
But once again, to the left, facts don’t matter at all! It’s the THOUGHT that counts, right?
Over at Washington State University, Campus Reform reports that multiple professors have explicitly told students their grades will suffer if they use terms such as “illegal alien,” “male,” and “female,” or if they fail to “defer” to non-white students.
According to the syllabus for Selena Lester Breikss’ “Women & Popular Culture” class, students risk a failing grade if they use any common descriptors that Breikss considers “oppressive and hateful language.”
Oh…and speaking of “oppressive and hateful” – which does seem to be the norm among the left, as Col. West reported this morning, consider what’s happening now under the guise of “higher education” at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
As reported by The College Fix, “An English class offered at UNC Chapel Hill this fall called “Literature of 9/11” explores the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks from the perspective of radical Islamists and those who view America as an imperialist nation. The reading assignments for the class, which includes poems, memoirs and graphic novels, present terrorists in a sympathetic light and American political leaders as greedy, war hungry and corrupt, according to a review by The College Fix. The readings mostly focus on justifying the actions of terrorists – painting them as fighting against an American regime, or mistaken idealists, or good people just trying to do what they deem right. None of the readings assigned in the freshman seminar present the Sept. 11 attacks from the perspective of those who died or from American families who lost loved ones. “ENGL 72: Literature of 9/11” is taught by Neel Ahuja, an associate professor of English, comparative literature, and geography at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.”
For the academic leftists, this isn’t hate speech. Oh no, it’s intellectually broadening and encourages diversity as well as inclusiveness. To the leftists, the Islamic terrorists held in GITMO are just political prisoners and America is a violator of human rights. In other words, we’re all just haters.
We must learn to empathize with those who wish to savagely torture, rape and murder us, but we must excise our own speech of “hateful” words like he, she…and Christian.
I no longer recognize my country. I keep feeling like I’m in some sort of bad dream from which I will never wake up. And at the same time, that’s what I want to shout to all of my fellow Americans: WAKE UP!
