The Democratic mayors (what a surprise) of two Michigan cities plan to celebrate the Islamic holiday of Ramadan this year on September 11th by honoring Sharia and hosting the “9th Annual Ramadan Unity Dinner” in Lansing. There’s just one problem. September 11th isn’t Ramadan or even in Ramadan season.
Why liberals are so determined to bend over backwards in order to appear open, tolerant, inclusive and accommodating to those of the Muslim faith while at the same time shutting down, shouting down, denigrating and dissing those of the Christian faith is a mystery for the ages.
But this most calloused of all possible moves –celebrating a Muslim holiday on the anniversary of the day nearly 3,000 Americans died at the hands of radical jihadists– is extraordinary even by the most progressive of standards. And to make matters worse (as if that’s possible), by the time this celebration rolls around, Ramadan will have been over for over a month and a half!
So what, exactly, are they celebrating since Ramadan is over?
Even though Ramadan ends in July, the Islamic Society of Greater Lansing has scheduled its dinner at the city-owned convention center and the cities (Lansing and East Lansing) are sponsoring the event with taxpayer money! The mayors; Virg Bernero of Lansing and Nathan Triplett of East Lansing, will host a dinner themed “Hope, Not Hunger.” The event’s poster features an Islamic crescent and a skyline of mosque-styled buildings.
(b) On the very day when 19 Muslim terrorists killed 2,977 innocent victims at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and crashed three airliners 14 years ago, liberal Democrats have sanctioned a celebration of the faith thus coming as close as anyone can to physically sticking their thumbs into the eyes of the survivors, friends and families of those who perished on that day.
Meanwhile, if you profess the bible and Christianity and would rather not bake a cake, you can pretty much expect a protest, lawsuit and public flogging from the exact same people.
