12 shot in Louisiana theatre last night; 7 shot in Maryland – but there’s a huge difference no one will discuss

I’ll be traveling to Lafayette, Louisiana today for a speaking engagement and my heart goes out to the victims and families of last night’s shooting at the movie theater there. We now know the lone white gunman as John Russel Houser, 59, of Alabama. Houser, 59, who killed himself, is among three people who died, police said. The other two were Mayci Breaux, 21, of Franklin, Louisiana, who died at the theater, and Jillian Johnson, 33, of Lafayette, who died at the hospital.

Of course we shall wait and see if there is the usual massive condemnation emanating from the White House, something tells me there won’t be — unless there is some political advantage to be gained.

I doubt President Obama will concern himself too deeply with the events in red state rural Louisiana. My first thought is, no more gun-free zones, as it seems movie theaters have become.

I arrived back to Texas from New York City after the Stop Iran rally to find the “breaking news” alert. But there was an even more grievous shooting that occurred in the last 24 hours that seems not to have garnered national attention.

As reported by the Baltimore Sun, “At least seven people, including three juveniles — a 13-year-old boy, a 15-year old boy and a 16-year-old girl — were shot in Baltimore Wednesday night, police said. Interim Commissioner Kevin Davis said police have no motive for the shooting but have been given information by the community that he hopes will lead detectives to the shooter or shooters. The 13-year-old boy was shot in the chest, the 15-year-old was shot in the chest and shoulder, and the 16-year-old girl was shot in the leg, police said. All were taken to area hospitals.

“It is certainly unacceptable for this community to see three teenagers being shot on a beautiful summer night like this,” Davis said. “It’s my impression that they’ve had enough.

A 34-year-old man was shot multiple times at 11:09 p.m. in the 1200 block of Clendenin St. in the Penn North neighborhood police said. The man, who was not identified, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sixty more people have been killed in Baltimore this year than at the same time last year. Police at this time last year were investigating 177 shootings, including 115 homicides. A total of 347 people have been shot in Baltimore this year.

Wednesday’s violence included a second triple shooting, police said. A 21-year-old man was shot in the foot, and a 29-year-old man was shot in the chest. They were both listed in stable condition. A 37-year-old man was shot in the chest and was listed in critical condition.

Yes, the obvious question is where are the “black lives matter” protests? What is happening in Baltimore is indicative of what is happening all over America in inner city communities — mainly black. We don’t hear about any declarations of senseless violence and condemnation. It becomes more and more apparent that only politically leveraged black lives matter.

And why is there no handwringing about gun violence in these communities, where I can almost guarantee you, there are VERY restrictive gun laws? Somehow guns have been outlawed so only outlaws have the guns and the good, law-abiding citizens live in fear and terror because of the gangs. But where are the 24/7 news crews like we saw over the Freddie Gray episode? Funny how that has truly died down as the truth is being revealed. What happened in Lafayette, Louisiana is horrible but what is happening in Baltimore is genocidal.

It just never ceases to amaze me what the media will cover. It’s a clear window into their priorities, as well as their political motivations. I want you all to think about this: there have been more people shot in Baltimore than in the combat zone of Afghanistan.

And regardless of what President Obama declares in his little unilateral world, there is still combat and fighting going on in Afghanistan. You can imagine that if there were 347 Americans shot in Afghanistan it would be top line news. Oops, I’m sorry, that’s if the sitting president is Republican. Somehow when it’s a Democrat, the deaths and casualties just do not get wide dissemination. What does all this tell us about the media? Perhaps blacks shooting themselves has become so routine, so matter of fact, it’s not worth being national news, or receiving any attention.

If that’s the case, it speaks volumes about the soft bigotry of low expectations that has invaded the culture. Could it be that in today’s America it’s now widely expected — and maybe accepted — that blacks killing blacks is just par for the course? Move along, nothing to see here. Of course everyone is going apoplectic about the case of Ms. Sandra Bland, whose death has been ruled a suicide by the medical examiner, no evidence of homicide.

So what will the black lives matter activists do now? I guess they’re saying, “darn, we have to wait for another opportunity to run around and make loud noises.” I have a suggestion, take your hypocritical selves to Baltimore — or even decentralize and hit any urban center in America. Find a cause to stand for that is not blatantly and transparently political in nature. We all know you won’t, because Massa George [Soros] has bought y’all with the thirty pieces of silver and you will continue to do his bidding. However, there will come a time, as with the original sellout, Judas, that your conscience will get the best of you. Or perhaps you are truly devoid of any soul.

Yes, it is terrible that folks who just wanted to go out on a Thursday summer night to a movie found themselves in a free fire zone, unarmed. However, this is a regular occurrence in Chicago, Baltimore, Washington DC, and just about every major urban center in America. The difference? Sadly, it comes down to the skin color of the shooter…and the victims. In those cases, what difference at this point does it make?
